Week 4 DFS: Running Back Report

Week 4 DFS: Running Back Report Last week we had some breakout performances. That included running backs, with five rushers eclipsing 20 points. A pair even topped 40. Oddly, they were on the same team. Our Week 4 DFS: Running
Fantasy Football Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em Week 4

We found some big names to target and fade last week. The results were mixed. However, more injuries mounted, so there are major question marks in Week 4. Our Fantasy Football Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em Week 4 explores those players and others that should be avoided in the fourth week. Quarterbacks Start ‘Em Justin Fields (vs. Denver) Fields has stunk so far, posting an average of just 14.6 fantasy points per game. However, he was drafted as a top-six fantasy quarterback. And this week’s matchup offers a prime opportunity for him to revitalize his season. The Bears are presented with the sixth-most favorable matchup for quarterbacks this week. They are facing off against the Denver Broncos, who have surrendered the second-highest number of fantasy points to the position in 2023. Denver has employed man defense at the fifth-highest rate this season. Fields boasts a 7.1% big-time throw rate against man coverage and a 3.1% rate against zone coverage over the last two seasons. Moreover, he exhibits a greater tendency to scramble against man defenses compared to zone defenses, which should boost his fantasy output. Brock Purdy (vs. Arizona) In last week’s victory over the Giants on Thursday Night Football, Purdy threw for 310 yards and two touchdowns. This performance marked his seventh outing with multiple passing touchdowns. Also, Purdy is connected to a top-tier set of offensive weapons and operates within one of the league’s most prolific offensive systems. Although the Cardinals have been more competitive than anticipated, they still rank in the bottom 12 in terms of passing yards allowed. If you’re in need of a streaming option this week, Purdy certainly fits the bill. Sit ‘Em Deshaun Watson (vs. Baltimore) Watson has had a decent start to the season, finishing as a top-10 fantasy quarterback in two of his first three games. However, his performance has not yet reached the level he displayed in 2020. Watson is currently averaging 6.7 yards per attempt, an improvement from last season. However, it’s far from the 8.9 yards per attempt he achieved in 2020. This week, he faces the formidable Baltimore Ravens’ defense, which boasts an impressive team coverage grade of 85.9, ranking third in the league. Expect a close, low-scoring game. Cleveland will emphasize the running game. That makes Watson’s efficiency as a passer vital. Running Backs Start ‘Em D’Andre Swift (vs. Washington) Swift has proven to be a valuable addition to the Eagles’ offensive arsenal over the past two weeks. He has carried the ball 44 times for 305 yards and one touchdown. Philadelphia has already started to limit his carries, with Kenneth Gainwell taking the majority of snaps in the second and fourth quarters of Week 3. Nonetheless, Swift is expected to receive a consistent volume of touches to remain a fantasy starter. The Eagles’ offensive line enjoys a substantial advantage over the Washington Commanders’ defensive line. Washington has allowed opposing rushers to gain 4.8 yards per attempt this season. Swift should maintain his efficiency. Additionally, the Eagles are favored by over a touchdown, suggesting they will continue to run the ball throughout the game. Hopefully Swift can score from a distance. Because inside the 3-yard line belongs to Jalen Hurts Alvin Kamara (vs. Tampa Bay) Kamara is back in action after serving a three-game suspension for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. His 2023 debut presents a challenging matchup against the Bucs. However, Tampa Bay recently allowed 130 rushing yards to D’Andre Swift. The Eagles racked up over 200 rushing yards against this defense. Also, Given the volume available in New Orleans with Jamaal Williams on injured reserve, Kamara is poised to become the centerpiece of the rushing attack. Furthermore, Kamara’s involvement in the passing game is a given. Subsequently, many fantasy managers will welcome Kamara back into their starting lineup. Sit ‘Em Brian Robinson (at Philadelphia) Robinson showcased his rushing prowess in Week 3, averaging an impressive 7.0 yards per carry. However, he was limited to just 10 carries as the Commanders fell behind early in the game against Buffalo. This week, Robinson faces a tough challenge against the Philadelphia Eagles, who have been staunch against the run. Philly has allowed only 121 total rushing yards to running backs through three weeks. That’s the second-lowest in the NFL. The Eagles surrender a mere 2.8 yards per carry and have yet to concede a rushing touchdown. Given the potential for this game to get out of hand, it’s advisable to explore alternative options. Also, Robinson won’t do much as a receiver. His opportunities could be limited in Week 4. Wide Receivers Start ‘Em Adam Thielen (vs. Minnesota) Much to my delight, Thielen has emerged as a key component of the Panthers’ offensive scheme over the past two weeks. Thielen has amassed 18 receptions on 23 targets for 199 yards and two touchdowns. The Panthers have an advantageous matchup for wide receivers this week. Carolina will face the Minnesota Vikings, who have yielded the third-highest number of fantasy points to wide receivers this season. Also, Thielen will primarily line up against Josh Metellus in the slot. Metellus allowed 10 catches for 62 yards last week. Finally, the Panthers are underdogs in this game. The target volume will be there in an exploitable matchup. Tank Dell (vs. Pittsburgh) Dell has emerged as the primary target for the Texans for two consecutive weeks. He received seven targets, securing five of them for 145 yards and a touchdown in their Week 3 upset win over the Jaguars. Also, Dell narrowly missed scoring a second touchdown. With 17 targets over the last two weeks, Dell’s production demands a starting spot on your roster as a WR3 or flex. Shockingly the Texans have gone pass-heavy, with over 120 passes thrown through three games. Additionally, the Steelers have conceded the fifth-most yards to receivers this season. Dell will continue to thrive in a positive game script. Sit ‘Em Zay Flowers (at Cleveland) Flowers has maintained a snap share of over 75% in each

Now, let’s break down all the latest fantasy-relevant injury news in this week’s Fantasy Football Injury Rundown. We will continually update this list. Fantasy Football Injury Rundown: Week 4 Mike Williams (WR) Los Angeles Chargers – The biggest injury to emerge from Week 3 was word that Williams tore his ACL. His 2023 campaign is over. This will mean a larger role for Joshua Palmer and Quentin Johnston. Also, Keenan Allen is the best bet to lead the league in targets. David Montgomery (RB) Detroit Lions – Good news out of Detroit. RB David Montgomery is trending toward being active on Thursday. Missing only one game would be great news for Montgomery. However, it would take some touches away from Jahmyr Gibbs. Dan Campbell said he’s feeling better about LT Taylor Decker and RB David Montgomery being able to play Thursday in Green Bay. — Tim Twentyman (@ttwentyman) September 26, 2023 Saquon Barkley (RB) New York Giants – Barkley practiced in a limited capacity Tuesday. It was announced last week that he was suffering from a high-ankle sprain. That’s concerning news. However, Barkley is a fast healer. Also, the Giants have an additional day since their Week 4 game is on Monday. Of course, this isn’t great news from a fantasy perspective as a late-game scratch would leave fantasy managers with no recourse. Unless it’s announced for certain, plan on finding another alternative to Barkley for at least one more week. Deebo Samuel (WR) San Francisco 49ers – Samuel is dealing with a rib injury. However, X-rays were negative. We should know more about his Week 4 status in the coming days and will update accordingly. For now, there isn’t a lot of concern. Christian Watson (WR) Green Bay Packers – A hamstring injury has kept Watson out of Green Bay’s first three games. However, things are looking good for Week 4. The Packers plan on Thursday. And the early talk is that Watson will make his 2023 debut. Also, we will know well in advance if Watson will be active. I’ll have an update in the FullTime Fantasy Discord before kickoff. Patrick Mahomes (QB) Kansas City Chiefs – Superstar QB Pat Mahomes had his right ankle rolled up. Mahomes had a noticeable limp. However, he was able to finish the game without issue. We view this as a non-factor. Jaylen Waddle (WR) Miami Dolphins – Waddle missed Miami’s historic Week 3 win with a head injury. Waddle has not been cleared but the team remains optimistic that he will return before Sunday’s game in Buffalo. Aaron Jones (RB) Green Bay Packers – Green Bay is also expected to have Aaron Jones back in the lineup after a one-week absence. Jones tweaked his hamstring in Week 2 but was close to playing Sunday. Anthony Richardson (QB) Indianapolis Colts – Richardson remains in the league’s concussion protocol. Shane Steichen announced Richardson will resume the starting job once he is cleared. The Colts host the LA Rams on Sunday. Tee Higgins (WR) Cincinnati Bengals – Higgins had a rough night that culminated in him exiting in the third quarter with cramps. However, the injury isn’t a concern. He’ll look to get back on track this week against Tennessee’s 28th-ranked secondary. Derek Carr (QB) New Orleans Saints – Carr is week to week with a sprained AC joint. Expect Jameis Winston to start Week 4 against his former team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Jimmy Garoppolo (QB) Las Vegas Raiders – Garoppolo entered the NFL’s concussion protocol following Las Vegas’ Week 3 loss. Boston Scott (RB) Philadephia Eagles – Philly’s No. 3 back missed Monday with a concussion. Scott will have to progress through the league’s protocol before he can return to action. Irv Smith (TE) Cincinnati Bengals – Smith missed Week 3 via the dreaded hamstring injury. We will have more updates in Discord as Week 4 progresses. River Cracraft (WR) Miami Dolphins – A shoulder injury will sideline Cracraft for multiple weeks. Quez Watkins (WR) Philadelphia Eagles – Watkins missed Week 3 with a hamstring injury. Olamide Zaccheaus filled in as WR3. Neither Philadelphia ancillary wideout is on the fantasy radar. Tylan Wallace (WR) Baltimore Ravens – The Ravens placed Wallace (hamstring) on IR. The earliest he can return is Week 8. The 2023 NFL season is underway but it’s not too late to get access to the best help out there! Fantasy Football Sleepers Week 7

By this point in a challenging 2022 season, every roster has faced adversity. This week’s brutal byes also won’t help. With our Fantasy Football Sleepers Week 7, we can help you recognize hidden values that may need to be plugged into your starting lineup. Whether it is as a bye-week replacement or longer, here are some Fantasy Football Sleepers Week 7 to consider. Quarterbacks Matt Ryan (QB) Indianapolis Colts – Ryan is coming off a monster game in which he threw for 389 yards and three TDs on 58 attempts. This week he goes head-to-head with the Titans who are allowing the third-most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks. He does not come without risk, however, the upside you’re looking for is there as well. Jacoby Brissett (QB) Cleveland Browns – Generally, Brissett isn’t going to wow you or blow you away with monster numbers. However, he should be a safe option this week with more upside than usual. He takes on the Ravens who are allowing the second-most fantasy points to QBs this season and seem to completely collapse in the second half week after week. Running Backs Kenyan Drake (RB) Baltimore Ravens – Drake turned back the clock last week and looked great rushing for 119 yards and a TD on just 10 carries. We don’t know what’s going on with J.K. Dobbins’s knee and Drake should be able to hit double-digit carries again whether or not Dobbins plays. He’d be a great sleeper regardless of matchup, but this week he takes on a porous Browns’ defense that is allowing the third-most fantasy points to RBs. Tony Pollard (RB) Dallas Cowboys – If you are playing the Lions you need to start your running backs. They are allowing more fantasy points to position than any team in the league. While Ezekiel Elliott is still the top dog in Dallas, Pollard is close behind and holds more PPR and big play upside. You should find a way to fit him in your lineup this week if at all possible. Kareem Hunt (RB) Cleveland Browns – Coming off a horrific week, it sounds like a lot of fantasy owners are throwing in the towel on Hunt. That would be a mistake, especially this week against the Ravens. While they are a tough matchup on the ground, they are susceptible to pass-catching backs. When it comes to yards on the ground to RBs, they are the 11th best in the league. However, they are allowing the fourth-most receiving yards and the third-most receptions to backs this season. The bottom line is this matchup favors Hunt much more than it favors Nick Chubb. Jamaal Williams (RB) Detroit Lions – Just because D’Andre Swift is expected to play this week doesn’t mean you need to cast Williams aside. He still has a major role in this offense and gets plenty of work on the goal line. For as good as the Cowboys’ defense has been this season they are below average against the run. Banking on Swift having a reduced role is probably a mistake. Even so, Williams gets enough work to have a fantasy impact. Wide Receivers Donovan Peoples-Jones (WR) Cleveland Browns – The Ravens are horrible against the pass and you should be considering pass-catchers who play against them. You don’t need us to tell you that for the 235th time this month. Nonetheless, the numbers you need to know are DPJs. He has topped 50 yards in three straight games and four on the season, and he’s outgained Amari Cooper in three of four games this season. He’s averaged seven targets a game in October and should thrive in a great matchup this week. Wan’Dale Robinson (WR) New York Giants – The highly-touted rookie played for the first time since Week 1 last week and immediately led all Giants’ wideouts in receptions, yards, and touchdowns. He is far and away the most talented wideout on an offense desperate for a playmaker at the position. His role should only expand from here. Tyquan Thornton (WR) New England Patriots – Thornton is another rookie who was hyped up through training camp before succumbing to injury and made his return two weeks ago and had his coming out party last week. All he did was score two TDs and lead all Patriots’ pass-catchers in fantasy points. Perhaps even more interestingly he also saw three carries he took for 16 yards and a TD. He’s a sleeper start and a must-add this week if he’s on waivers. Marquez Callaway (WR) New Orleans Saints – Michael Thomas, Jarvis Landry, and Adam Trautman have all been ruled out again this week leaving Chris Olave needing someone else to emerge opposite him. Last week, Callaway led the Saints’ receivers with seven targets with Olave sidelined. He should serve as the WR2 this week. He should see WR2 targets but is also far from a lock. So be aware of the risk here. Tight Ends Greg Dulcich (TE) Denver Broncos – If you are looking to add a tight end off of waivers it’s hard to find one with more rest-of-seaon upside than Dulcich. The rookie made his NFL debut last week and looked great. He went for 44 yards and a TD and his 71 percent snap count was the most for any Broncos’ tight end this season. He immediately put a stranglehold on the TE1 job in Denver that had been productive but was split by three guys. It’s all his now. Cade Otton (TE) Tampa Bay Buccaneers – This is a simple explanation. Cameron Brate suffered another injury last week and will not play for a while most likely. Otton is a talented rookie and the last man standing in a Tom Brady-led offense. Therefore, he has potential upside every week and is worth taking a look at as a sleeper option. ENTER OUR WEEK 7 DRAFT CONTEST! How it Works: Draft your team using our On-Demand Simulator. Fantasy Football Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em Week 7

An interesting stat going around is that 2022 is the lowest-scoring opening six-week run in 13 years. Scoring is down 22% from 2021. That means there has been a lot of roster adversity. Our Fantasy Football Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em Week 7 picks help you identify values to target and fades to avoid. It is also crucial to know which waiver wire pick to make and to stay up-to-date on the injury report. Here are our Fantasy Football Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em Week 7 picks. QUARTERBACKS Start ‘Em Jimmy Garoppolo (San Francisco 49ers) – Jimmy G is the perfect streaming option this week if you’re looking for a viable starter to replace Josh Allen or another quarterback on a bye. Garoppolo takes on the Chiefs who are allowing the fourth-most fantasy points to QBs. Despite San Francisco’s elite defense, the Chiefs can score at will forcing the 49ers to throw the ball. Tua Tagovailoa (Miami Dolphins) – Tagovailoais back and let’s not forget what he was doing before he got hurt. At the time of his injury, he was leading the league in passing yards and touchdowns. He has Tyreek Hill to throw to who is on pace to break Calvin Johnson’s single-season receiving record. Jaylen Waddle isn’t far behind him. Tua has the ability, the weapons, and a great matchup on Sunday Night Football against the Steelers. Pittsburgh has allowed the seventh-most fantasy points to QBs and the second-most passing yards in the league. Sit ‘Em Aaron Rodgers (Green Bay Packers) – You will see Rodgers ranked higher than usual this week because of the matchup with the Commanders. Don’t fall for this narrative. This offense has been horrible this season and not once has Rodgers finished the week as a QB1. Currently, he sits as the QB20 overall on the season. Unless he’s a desperation play, you can do better. This offense is broken and he should be benched regardless of the matchup until he shows otherwise. Russell Wilson (Denver Broncos) – Wilson has been a disaster this season. Now he’s piling a hamstring injury on top of a shoulder injury. On Monday Night Football in the second half and overtime, he completed three passes for 15 yards. This week he plays the Jets who have been dominant on the defensive line and the Broncos can’t protect an apparently gimpy Wilson. RUNNING BACKS Start ‘Em Ezekiel Elliott (Dallas Cowboys) – This season has been a roller coaster ride for Zeke owners with more downs than ups, but things are getting back on track. Over the past three weeks, he has touched the ball 54 times and already has over 100 opportunities on the season. The volume is there and his production has been climbing coming off four strong weeks in a row. This week he plays the Lions who have surrendered the most points to fantasy running backs this season. Eno Benjamin (Arizona Cardinals) – Despite being underwhelming last week, the opportunity was there for Benjamin. He played 87 percent of the snaps, saw 15 of the 18 carries, and was the only running back targeted. The Cardinals’ offense was a disaster last week and hopefully, they can get that turned around against a middle-of-the-pack matchup with the Saints. Stick with the opportunity here and hope for a better week for this offense overall. Sit ‘Em Najee Harris (Pittsburgh Steelers) – It’s time to be done with Harris until further notice. He has combined low efficiency with inconsistent volume and is getting the targets he saw last week. This week Mitch Trubisky will likely be back at quarterback to make this offense even worse. Keep him on your bench. Clyde Edwards Helaire (Kansas City Chiefs) – Everyone could see the collapse of CEH coming. There just wasn’t enough volume to sustain his incredible early-season output. This is a three-man committee and he has rushed for a total of 48 yards on 18 carries over the past two weeks. When he’s not scoring touchdowns he’s not useful. This week he takes on the 49ers who are allowing the second-fewest fantasy points to RBs. WIDE RECEIVERS Start ‘Em DeAndre Hopkins (Arizona Cardinals) – A popular question as we head into Week 7 is what should be done with Hopkins on his first week back. A week ago the answer would have been to give him a week and see how he looks. That is no longer the case. With Hollywood Brown heading to IR, Hopkins should be in your lineups immediately. His WR1 upside combined with the need for his presence in this offense should be enough to make him a must-start. Allen Lazard (Green Bay Packers) – Lazard has caught at least four passes and a TD in five of six games this season. This week he takes on the Commanders who are allowing the third-most fantasy points to opposing wideouts and the Packers just lost a trusted target in Randall Cobb for a while. There is no need to complicate things here Lazard needs to be started. Alec Pierce (Indianapolis Colts) – Pierce has quietly been great this season. Excluding Week 1 when he didn’t play much, he has seen 5 targets, and either topped 60 yards or scored a TD in every game. The Colts play the Titans this week who are allowing the most fantasy points to wide receivers. Sit ‘Em Courtland Sutton (Denver Broncos) – This goes right along with the benching of Russell Wilson. Sutton is coming off a two-catch-for-14-yard performance matched up against Sauce Gardner who has been tough on WR1s. Sutton also is playing in an offense that averages less than one passing TD per game. Curtis Samuel (Washington Commanders) – To go along with a tough matchup against the Packers who are allowing the eight-fewest fantasy points to receivers, Samuel also lost his starting quarterback Carson Wentz this week. Not that Wentz is a world-beater by any means, but backup Taylor Heinicke has familiarity with Terry McLaurin and hasn’t played
