Fantasy Football Recap Week 6

Just one glance at the Week 6 leaderboard solidifies the importance of in-season management. Of course, that isn’t applicable in best ball formats but it furthers the points. The key theme in our Fantasy Football Recap Week 6 is titles aren’t won in August. The current top-10 fantasy scorers for each position are littered with guys who likely weren’t drafted at all. But, if you’re paying attention, you saw some of those performances coming. At least you did if you’re actively working the waiver wire. Winning at a high level takes work. And a little luck. But mostly, you got to keep grinding. Told Ya! Now two months ago this wouldn’t have been a big deal. But, in Week 6, you’re telling me Kyle Pitts AND Allen Robinson caught touchdowns?! Indeed, it happened but an early graphic for Robinson was telling. 12 receptions, 102 yards, 1 touchdown That was Robinson’s line. For the whole season. All summer I could’ve sworn that would have been A-Rob’s weekly production. But here we are, in the sixth game and that’s his total. Pitts is even more depressing. Everyone had him plugged in as a top-3 tight end with 120 targets as the baseline. There are certainly more examples of how the right process can bring the wrong results. I’m sure it happens just as frequently every year. But, in this business, all you can do is look ahead. So those past disappointments fade from your memory. It just reiterates the point I made at the top. Keep grinding and looking ahead. But, it’s ok to remember that one glorious Sunday- Week 6- that our boys came through for us! Afternoon Dee-saster Last week I lamented at the unbalanced schedule. That was in play again this week, but it didn’t seem like it would be as egregious. After all, the Kansas City vs. Buffalo game promised to light up the scoreboard with that over/under of 54. The NFC West battle between Arizona and Seattle also offered a ton of scoring appeal. Also, the Rams were poised to light up the scoreboard in a ‘get right’ spot against a Carolina squad trotting out a new quarterback and interim coach. Welp. All six teams playing in the afternoon window entered halftime of their respective game with one or zero touchdowns. Sloppy play and turnovers ruled the second slate, even with what looked like a promising watch, full of fantasy stars. Instead, we snoozed through punts, missed field goals, defensive touchdowns, and inept offensive output. Even the ultra-rare “playing getting kicked out of the game by his interim coach” factored in. However, in an effort to end on a positive note, UNDER bettors were undoubtedly pleased. Backfield Breakdown With so few teams employing a workhorse running back, it is essential for us to track how coaches divide their backfield touches. Here are the fantasy opportunities from some of Sunday’s backfields. Opportunities means carries plus targets. Atlanta – Tyler Allgeier 33 snaps, 15 opp.; Caleb Huntley 20 snaps, 16 opp.; Avery Williams 7 snaps, 3 opp. Baltimore – Kenyan Drake 34 snaps, 12 opp.; J.K. Fantasy Football Recap Week 5

AWeek 5 was both a return to normalcy and highly odd. In other words, status quo for 2022. One takeaway before i delve into the Fantasy Football Recap Week 5 is that the league’s new concussion protocol is going to create a lot of fantasy football chaos. And that is not to be taken as a negative. These young men play a violent sport and every possible safety protocol should be in place to protect them. If we get some things wrong on our fantasy rosters, oh well. Much better than seeing someone’s life impacted permanently. First Impressions We’re really spoiled today. 4K TD TV. The Red Zone Channel bounces back and forth to every game. Websites and apps bring us instant news and stats live. Life for football fanatics is so much better than it used to be. For the life of me, I can’t figure out how anybody would choose to attend a game live over all that. Consequently, as great as technology is, have you noticed that maybe it’s made us arrogant? I know I’m not the only one who sees close plays and just “knows” the outcome that seems to baffle the play-by-play announcers and officials. It’s to the point where I feel like I should be the one determining coaching challenges from right here on my couch. I’d have a hard time giving up this gig but I’d listen to offers. Holler at me Houston Texans. However, with accountability being a hot topic in fantasy football this week, I have to admit I had a rusty Sunday of making sure calls. First, I was convinced they’d overturn that Mike Evans non-TD call. Following that, the catch by Chigoziem Okonkwo (which would’ve paid +650) looked good. Lastly, the James Robinson fourth-down carry…nope. At this point, it was a rough day on the couch. But, I did get the Chris Olave touchdown grab correct. He deserved that one. So did I. Get The Balance Right Admittedly, I was looking for a clever way to make a Depeche Mode reference since I was surprised to hear they’re actually dropping a new album last week. Makes me think of some of the other old guys who had a strong showing in Week 5. Tom Brady threw for 351 yards. Tevin Coleman came out of nowhere to put up a very good performance. Marvin Jones was about the only good thing to come out of the Jacksonville game. But, rather than balancing more of those trusty veterans with the current class of first-round dynasty talents, I’m thinking more balance with the schedule. Obviously, there was the one London game, which I love. There should always be an early game IMO. Then there were nine games that kicked off at 1 PM Eastern. Following that onslaught were just three games in the 4 PM window. Also, one of which was in Carolina so it barely qualifies as an NFL contest. Still, I am aware that there are more teams east of the Mississippi but it’s not that unusual to have those squads play in the afternoon slot. From a scheduling perspective, it would be preferable to have it be a little more even. That’s the Policy of Truth. Backfield Breakdown With so few teams employing a workhorse running back, it is important for us to track how teams are dividing their backfield touches. Here are the fantasy opportunities from some of Sunday’s backfields. Opportunities means carries plus targets. Atlanta – Tyler Allgeier 39 snaps, 13 opp.; Avery Williams 17 snaps, 5 opp.; Caleb Huntley 16 snaps, 8 opp. Cleveland – Nick Chubb 35 snaps, 18 opp.; Kareem Hunt 33 snaps, 14 opp. Detroit – Craig Reynolds 31 snaps, 9 opp.; Jamaal Williams 22 snaps, 15 opp.; Justin Jackson 14 snaps, 4 opp. Green Bay – Aaron Jones 46 snaps, 16 opp.; A.J. Fantasy Football Recap Week 4

With four games in the books, we have a pretty good idea of who the teams are at this point. But four weeks into a crazy 2022 season, I wonder what we really know. Our Fantasy Football Recap Week 4 looks back on some of the things we think we know. One thing I know first-hand is living through hurricanes and massive flooding is brutal. That hit hard this week when one of my friends in the football community got hit hard. If you’re in a position where you can help, please do. Anything helps. Back That QB Up It’s been said that being a backup quarterback is the best gig in sports. I think that probably applies to guys like Chase Daniel and Josh McCown, who had lengthy and lucrative careers in that role. But Week 4 showed the importance of having a reliable understudy. The Giants were forced to temporarily go Wildcat after Tyrod Taylor, who had already stepped in for Daniel Jones, was forced from the game. The Browns and Falcons both employed starters who were backups last year. New England was forced to go to the bench and start Brian Hoyer but he was quickly knocked out which necessitated New England going to the backup’s backup. On Thursday, Teddy Bridgewater got the call after that scary injury to Tua Tagovailoa. Unfortunately, it looks like Ole Teddy Bridgequarterback might be under center for a while in Miami. Kenny Pickett made his NFL debut after Mike Tomlin benched Mitch Trubisky. Cooper Rush led the Cowboys to another surprising win in his third relief appearance. Zach Wilson returned to lead the Jets to a victory after Joe Flacco started New York’s first three contests. Although the overall results were mixed for these QB2s in Week 4, one thing we know is teams are typically only as good as their quarterback. Whether he’s a starter or reliever. Uni-Watch Not a fan of Washington’s new all-black uniforms. Every time they would go to Dallas I felt like I was watching the Steelers playing both at home and on the road. And after watching how poorly Pittsburgh played with both quarterbacks, nobody wanted to see that. The Saints’ new look was fine. Except for the helmet. It would have been pretty sharp with a solid black helmet instead of the stripe of fleur de lis down the center. Too busy. Maybe they weighed Will Lutz down ever so slightly. I generally don’t like when teams wear colored pants and jerseys together but for some reason, I’m ok with what Arizona wore. Of course, that didn’t seem to help the offense’s early struggles. Going back to Thursday, the Bengals showed how to employ a new alternate/helmet combo. No surprise that Cincinnati, no doubt motivated by the slick new digs, came away victorious. Looking at you, Commanders. Of course, having the best uniforms in sports isn’t a guarantee of success, sadly. No matter what city they play in. At least the Raiders finally got that first W. And looked good doing it. Backfield Breakdown With so few teams employing a workhorse running back, it is important for us to track how teams are dividing their backfield touches. Here are the fantasy opportunities from some of Sunday’s backfields. Opportunities means carries plus targets. Atlanta – Tyler Allgeier 24 snaps, 11 opp.; Cordarrelle Patterson 16 snaps, 9 opp.; Caleb Huntley 12 snaps, 10 opp. Baltimore – J.K. Dobbins 35 snaps, 17 opp.; Justice Hill 25 snaps, 10 opp. Buffalo – Devin Singletary 55 snaps, 16 opp.; Zack Moss 6 snaps, 3 opp.; James Cook 2 snaps, 1 opp. Cleveland – Nick Chubb 40 snaps, 21 opp.; Kareem Hunt 36 snaps, 13 opp. Dallas – Ezekiel Elliott 39 snaps, 21 opp.; Tony Pollard 24 snaps, 10 opp. Jacksonville – Travis Etienne 24 snaps, 8 opp.; James Robinson 22 snaps, 8 opp. New Orleans – Mark Ingram 29 snaps, 13 opp.; Latavius Murray 26 snaps, 12 opp. New York Jets – Breece Hall 46 snaps, 23 opp.; Michael Carter 31 snaps, 11 opp. Philadelphia – Miles Sanders 55 snaps, 30 opp.; Kenneth Gainwell 22 snaps, 7 opp. Washington – J.D. Fantasy Football Recap Week 3

When you looked at this week’s schedule, there was some hope that we’d see a big uptick in fantasy scoring. Those hope got dashed pretty quickly, as you’ll see in this Fantasy Football Recap Week 3. It’s not that there weren’t some intriguing games and stat lines. It just felt like all the wrong guys were scoring. So many elite players were primed to have great matchups in the early slate, but that’s not exactly how it played out. Let’s look back on the fantasy football recap Week 3 and see what positives we can take away from a strange week of NFL action. Cold Open No matter how many hours of research you do during the week, sometimes there are “those” weeks. Week 3 got off to a slow start, setting the table for a long day of football. With Buffalo’s secondary decimated by injuries and facing a Miami offense that just went wild last week, I expected a lot of passing and points. Not to mention, that neither team has a running back score in either of their first two games. Naturally, that’s exactly how the game began. First, Devin Singletary and then Chase Edmonds got short scores to set the frustrating tone for the week. Right after that, David Montgomery got hurt, and Khalil Herbert naturally housed a score against the Texans. Those kinds of things are even more upsetting for analysts because we know that people rely on us for advice. Like when Edmonds has two stinkers in a row and you look at his usage plus a matchup against the Bills. Seems like a good plan to sit him, only to have him punch in a score on the first drive. Unfortunately, Montgomery wouldn’t be the only early injury. Tee Higgins, Amon Ra-St. Brown, Garrett Wilson, and Tua Tagovailoa all left their respective games. Fortunately, all but Wilson returned but the precedent of an ugly Sunday was set. Throwing in the Towel You can fade a bad game. I preached patience even after Week 2. That still seems too early to give up on guys. But when you get out of the gate with three shoddy performances in a row, it’s time to cut bait. Fantasy football isn’t the easiest game to accurately project, but that’s the game. I felt really good about our process and 2022 fantasy football draft rankings. But, it is time to admit defeat with a few of my preseason misses. Justin Fields has been absolutely brutal. He had a chance to salvage some fantasy value against a hapless Houston team, but Fields once again struggled. His inadequacies have torpedoed the entire Chicago offense. And there’s little recourse for the Bears’ new regime, which will have to target QB early in April. With Fields’ awful play, there’s simply no reason to roster TE Cole Kmet. WR Darnell Mooney should also be cut in the vast majority of fantasy leagues. Only in dynasty formats can you justify keeping either one of these guys around. Mooney got all of five targets in 59 snaps. Kmet got two and played the same number of downs. Matt Ryan showed some signs of decline last season but I figured Frank Reich could resurrect his career. Nope. Ryan entered Week 3 outside of the top-20 and had another pot outing until the fourth quarter. His poor play is also having a negative effect on Michael Pittman and Jonathan Taylor. That alone warrants Ryan being banned from fantasy rosters, but I suppose you can keep him around in Superflex formats. In a game where Mac Jones threw for 321 yards, Hunter Henry had one target. Kadarius Toney and Kenny Golladay haven’t been on the field very often, and when they have, they’ve had zero impact. New York’s new regime didn’t draft these guys, and fantasy managers who did should be looking elsewhere. Kenyan Drake was a healthy scratch and the Ravens scored 37. Backfield Breakdown With so few teams employing a workhorse running back, it is important for us to track how teams are dividing their backfield touches. Here are the fantasy opportunities from some of Sunday’s backfields. Opportunities means carries plus targets. Baltimore – J.K. Dobbins 26 snaps, 9 opp.; Justice Hill 28 snaps, 6 opp. Chicago – David Montgomery (INJ) 11 snaps, 3 opp; Khalil Herbert 38 snaps, 22 opp.; Trestan Ebner 15 snaps, 8 opp. Atlanta – Cordarrelle Patterson 35 snaps, 18 opp.; Tyler Allgeier 21 snaps, 7 opp. Buffalo – Devin Singletary 67(!) snaps, 19 opp.; Zack Moss 16 snaps, 5 opp.; James Cook 10 snaps, 6 opp. Detroit – D’Andre Swift 32 snaps, 11 opp.; Jamaal Williams 35 snaps, 21 opp. Green Bay – Aaron Jones 39 snaps, 16 0pp.; A.J. Fantasy Football Recap Week 2

It’s not that Week 2 didn’t have scoring or drama- it just all seemed to come in just a handful of games. For the most part, points were at a premium and that makes for a whacky fantasy slate. The Fantasy Football Recap Week 2 looks back at the carnage with an eye on Week 3. Regardless of how ugly the first two weeks may have been for your fantasy squad, it is far too early to panic. Keep proactively attacking the waiver wire and see how you can improve things. Try to figure out if your process is wrong or if it’s just bad luck. Be proactive, not reactive. Let’s look back on the fantasy football recap Week 2 and see how we can prepare to get a win next week. Zero RB I didn’t search for #ZeroRB on Twitter but pretty good guess there is some high-quality gloating. Christian McCaffrey was the sole 100-yard rusher on Sunday afternoon and he barely eclipsed triple digits. Aaron Jones joined him in the night game, but no other running back topped 90. Only nine running backs even produced a rushing score, and two of them were not even fantasy-relevant. Meanwhile, wide receivers dominated. A full six wideouts scored multiple touchdowns Sunday and 11 topped the century mark. Considering all the committee backfields and injuries, we old-school running back enthusiasts might need to adjust our strategies. While our precious rushers might eventually return to prominence, it’s hard to see the light at the end of that tunnel. Those pesky pass-catchers keep stealing it. Don’t Call It A Comeback What was I saying about a glimmer of hope? No doubt LL Cool J was pleased that his New York Giants were one of the teams to come from behind to pull out a late victory. But that field goal versus the Panthers had nothing on some of the other comebacks. New York trailed Cleveland 17-13 after three then both teams put the pedal to the metal in the fourth. The Jets ultimately prevailed both both teams combined for 30 fourth-quarter points. Arizona looked dead to rights down 23-7 in the fourth before scoring 16 unanswered in the final period and walking it off with a fumble return score in overtime. But the most bonkers contest was in Baltimore as the Dolphins were down 35-14(!) in the fourth quarter. Then TUA happened. Behind Tua Tagovailoa‘s 469 passing yards and team-record 6 TD strikes, Miami completed an amazing come-from-behind victory. The Dolphins had +2500 odds at one point in the fourth and persevered. On the other hand, it ties the Ravens’ team record for the largest blown lead. That last occurred in a loss to the Steelers back in 1997. This game alone accounted for 89.4% of the total fantasy production for the entire game. Ok, I made that stat up but that’s what it felt like. The takeaway here is what I hit on at the top. Even if you’re struggling and off to an 0-2 start, it’s too early to panic. Keep fighting and things should even out. Queue up Chuck Berry’s “You Never Can Tell.” Next Gen Guessing The NFL is way behind other sports when it comes to analytics. When they catch up, the game we all know is going to change dramatically. Until then, I like to peruse the NFL’s Next Gen stats. I found some interesting charts this week that I thought I’d share. The first person to tag me with the correct guesses in the FullTime Discord gets a prize. Backfield Breakdown The theme for this week seems to be the end of the workhorse running back. Even Jonathan Taylor was reduced to a mere nine carries against the…Jaguars? Clearly, it has become more important for us to track committee backfield and the fantasy opportunities from those teams. Here are the fantasy opportunities from some of Sunday’s backfields. Opportunities means carries plus targets. Atlanta – Cordarrelle Patterson 36 snaps, 11 opp.; Tyler Allgeier 19 snaps, 10 opp.; Avery Williams 15 snaps, 1 opp. Baltimore – Kenyan Drake 15 snaps, 6 opp.; Justice Hill 21 snaps, 3 opp.; Mike Davis 18 snaps, 5 opp. Cleveland – Nick Chubb 36 snaps, 20 opp.; Kareem Hunt 31 snaps, 15 opp. Dallas – Ezekiel Elliott 41 snaps, 17 opp.; Tony Pollard 24 snaps, 16 opp. Denver – Javonte Williams 47 snaps, 18 opp.; Melvin Gordon 23 snaps, 11 opp. Detroit – D’Andre Swift 31 snaps, 10 opp.; Jamaal Williams 21 snaps, 13 opp. Jacksonville – James Robinson 45 snaps, 25 opp.; Travis Etienne 26 snaps, 12 opp. Los Angeles Rams – Darrell Henderson 35 snaps, 10 opp.; Cam Akers 27 snaps, 18 opp. Miami – Chase Edmonds 36 snaps, 7 opp.; Raheem Mostert 39 snaps, 11 opp. New England – Damien Harris 27 snaps, 17 opp; Rhamondre Stevenson 42 snaps, 10 opp. New Orleans – Mark Ingram 25 snaps, 12 opp.; Tony Jones 34 snaps, 4 opp. New York Jets – Breece Hall 20 snaps, 8 opp.; Michael Carter 42 snaps, 12 opp. San Francisco – Jeff Wilson 37 snaps, 20 opp.; Tyrion Davis-Price 30 snaps, 14 opp. Seattle – Rashaad Penny 20 snaps, 6 opp.; Ken Walker 12 snaps, 7 opp. Washington – Antonio Gibson 40 snaps, 18 opp.; J.D. Fantasy Football Recap Week 1

The opening week of any NFL season is always the most difficult to handicap. 2022 proved no different as we had crazy second-half comebacks, numerous injuries, and even a tie game. Our Fantasy Football Recap Week 1 reflects back on a wild Sunday. As unpredictable as Week 1 was, the good news is that things should stabilize a bit. Sure, there will be some Bizarro weeks here and there, but now that we have live action for every team, it will be somewhat easier to predict. Here are some of the key fantasy football takeaways from a wild Week 1. Missed Opportunites Peyton Manning definitely wouldn’t approve of the showing by Sunday’s kickers. A full 14 missed kicks during the afternoon slate had dire consequences in a couple of games. It wasn’t all incompetence. Sloppy fields, blocks, and injuries factored in. Still, it’s frustrating to see kickers continue to have a negative impact on fantasy football outcomes. Props to the commissioners out there who have #bannedkickers. Beat the Books It was a challenging Sunday slate. However, we can take some solace in the fact that it was also a bad day for bookmakers. Favorites covered nine of the 15 games between Thursday and Sunday both straight up and against the spread. The under also hit in 10 of the 15 contests. Over bettors should feel fortunate to even get away with that kind of loss. Points were at a severe premium in the first half of the afternoon games. Only some crazy second-half outcomes salvaged a handful of games for fans seeking points. Travis Etienne’s First Game Overall a mixed bag in Travis Etienne’s first NFL game. On one hand, Etienne looked good, averaging 11.8 yards per carry and getting multiple red-zone looks. On the other hand, Etienne dropped a walk-in touchdown and committed a fumble that was brutal from a sports betting perspective. Travis Etienne’s receiving yard prop: 20.5 Etienne before this play: 24 receiving yards Etienne after this play and final stats: 18 receiving yards 🤮🤮🤮 pic.twitter.com/y2DALhT85J — Connor Allen (@ConnorAllenNFL) September 11, 2022 He was also outplayed by James Robinson, who out-touched Etienne 12-6. Still, we remain fans of Etienne’s skill set but even we need to lower expectations a bit. Tale of Two QBs I couldn’t help but be blown away at the contrast of two All-Pro quarterbacks who were breaking in a new receiving corps this week. Looking at Billy’s vacated targets report, the Chiefs had an NFL-high 345 vacated targets from 2021. Yet, Patrick Mahomes didn’t skip a beat. Mahomes completed 30-of-39 passes for 360 yards and five touchdowns en route to an overall QB1 finish in Week 1. Conversely, Aaron Rodgers, who had all 241 of Green Bay’s vacated targets come via the wide receiver group, was abysmal. Rodgers threw for 195 scoreless yards and tossed a pick as the Packers lost in Minnesota. Backfield Breakdown In addition to Jacksonville’s duo, several other teams seem firmly committed to using multiple backs. This puts extra emphasis on the few three-down backs that remain. It also means we have to pay attention to opportunities on a week-to-week basis. Here are the fantasy opportunities from some of Sunday’s backfields. Opportunities means carries plus targets. Chicago – David Montgomery 21, Khalil Herbert 10 Cleveland – Nick Chubb 23, Kareem Hunt 15 Detroit – D’Andre Swift 18, Jamaal Williams 13 Green Bay – A.J. Dillon 16, Aaron Jones 10 Houston – Rex Burkhead 18, Dameon Pierce 10 Kansas City – Isiah Pacheco 12, Clyde Edwards-Helaire 10, Jerrick McKinnon 8 Las Vegas – Josh Jacobs 11, Brandon Bolden 5 (injured) New England – Damien Harris 12, Rhamondre Stevenson 10 (Ty Montgomery 36% snap rate) New York Jets – Michael Carter 19, Breece Hall 16 Philadelphia – Mile Sanders 15, Kenneth Gainwell 9, Boston Scott 4 Key Injuries Always an unfortunate part of the game. NFL Training Camp Update August 29

The NFL preseason has concluded and roster cut day is now on the horizon. Our NFL Training Camp Update August 29 catches you up on all the fantasy-relevant news you may have missed this weekend while drafting your fantasy squad. At this point, we’re updating our 2022 fantasy football rankings constantly. Also, our 2022 team outlooks and Billy Muzio’s updated fades are great draft-prep tools. A lot of news will be flying in this week as NFL rosters are trimmed to 53. Before that, here is the final NFL training camp update August 29. Brian Robinson Shot Multiple Times Just as rookie RB Brian Robinson appeared to seize a significant role in Washington’s backfield, the rookie rusher was shot multiple times in an attempted car-jacking. Robinson was shot in the leg and rear end and emerged from surgery in “good spirits.” The wounds aren’t expected to cause significant long-term damage and Robinson is tentatively expected back at some point this season. That is great news and we’ll certainly be rooting for Robinson in 2022. Logan Thomas Expected Back Week 2 ESPN’s John Keim reports that Washington expects Thomas to suit up in Week 2. Coming off a torn ACL he was activated off the PUP list last week. If healthy, he is a sneaky good sleeper tight end. That has been a productive position for the Commanders, and he’s been the most impressive in that role. Elijah Mitchell Good to Go Mitchell who had questions surrounding his health circling him for weeks returned to practice on Sunday. He is now a safe bet to be ready to start the season. He can now confidently be drafted as an RB2. Check out where we have Elijah Mitchell ranked in our 2022 Fantasy Football Rankings. J.K. Dobbins Could Be Limited in September According to the Athletic’s Jeff Zrebiec, “it would be optimistic” to expect J.K. Dobbins to have a full workload early in the season. Dobbins has not shown he is fully healthy and there is even a chance he lands on IR to start the season. He’s a high-upside flex option at the moment but carries plenty of risks. Robert Tonyan Returns to Practice A fantasy darling last year after a breakout 2020 campaign, Tonyan got off to a slow start before tearing his ACL last season. The big tight end returned to practice this week and could be ready for the start of the season. With the lack of proven targets in Green Bay, he could see an increased role once fully healthy. He is worth monitoring. Diontae Johnson Injures Shoulder Steelers’ stud wideout was forced from the team’s final preseason game and immediately ruled out after coming down awkwardly on his shoulder. The extent of the injury is not yet known but could have a major impact on fantasy drafts. If the injury is serious, Chase Claypool and George Pickens will see their stock skyrocket. Ty Montgomery Injured Montgomery has been a popular PPR sleeper this year as he was expected to take over pass-catching duties in the Patriots’ backfield. However, he was carted off this week in the Pats’ final preseason game with an ankle injury. The extent of that ailment is still unknown. Unsurprisingly the team isn’t giving us much to go on, but this could be significant news for Rhamondre Stevenson and to a lesser extent Damien Harris if Montgomery misses significant time. Skyy Moore Doesn’t Do Much Moore wasn’t targeted in the Chiefs’ final preseason game and is currently at best fourth on the depth chart. He also appears to be the team’s primary punt returner. The rookie totaled 3 receptions all of the preseason. Do not bank on early-season production from Moore for your fantasy team. He’s a bench stash at best until something changes. Cowboys’ Tyron Smith Tears Hamstring We usually don’t report on offensive linemen here, but this is a massive loss for the Cowboys. The team has been noticeably worse when Smith misses time and Dak Prescott has significantly struggled. Smith underwent surgery last week to attach his left hamstring to his knee and is expected to be out until at least December. This is a brutal blow for the Cowboys’ offense. Michael Gallup Avoids PUP List Coming off a torn ACL, Gallup will not be placed on the PUP list to start the year. He also will not be ready for Week 1. This appears to give him a timetable of returning between weeks two and four. He could see an increased role once healthy with Amari Cooper now in Cleveland. Michael Carter Still Starter According to ESPN’s Rich Cimini, Carter is still the Jets starter over star rookie Breece Hall. While this may not last, everything the team has done this preseason points to this being true. A limited role and gauntlet of a schedule could make the first half of the season an uphill battle for Hall to be startable in fantasy leagues. Tom Brady Returns Brady returned to Tampa last week and even played in the team’s final preseason game. There were a ton of rumors swirling regarding his absence, but it was all just noise. Brady is back and is a sure-fire QB1. Sony Michel Waived The Dolphins released veteran RB Sony Michel ahead of Tuesday’s cut-down day. The move assures that Chase Edmonds should be heavily-featured with Raheem Mostert as the direct backup. Michel won’t have trouble latching on somewhere, perhaps reunited with the Rams. NFL Training Camp Update August 27

We are now just days away from NFL action. Building a championship roster starts with our NFL training camp update August 27, which keeps you up-to-date on all the fantasy-relevant news and notes. At this point, we’re updating our 2022 fantasy football rankings constantly. Also, our 2022 team outlooks and Billy Muzio’s updated fades are great draft-prep tools. NFL squads are completing their preseason games and roster cut day is approaching. Here are the important NFL training camp updates for August 27. Geno Smith Named Seattle’s Starting QB We’ve been ahead of this one all offseason and Pete Carroll made it official last night. Smith is not a difference maker but Drew Lock sealed his fate with three interceptions in the Seahawks’ preseason finale. In the latest FullTime Fantasy Podcast, I mentioned Smith winning the battle would be an upgrade for both DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. Draft accordingly. Dameon Pierce To The Moon Pierce once again looked explosive, churning out yards after contact and even punching in a goal-line score in Houston’s shutout victory over San Francisco. The days of Pierce going in the 8th or 9th round are long gone and he’s now creeping into the 5th. Expect Pierce to be drafted as a low-end RB2 by the time Week 1 rolls around. With that, he’s still a nice target if he falls outside the top 60. Chris Godwin Looking Good Even though Godwin tore his ACL in December, he’s been well ahead of recovery pace all summer. This week, Godwin participated in seven-on-seven drills, indicating the team is growing more confident in Godwin’s recovery timeline. It’s still too early to say if Godwin will be on the field in Week 1 but he is starting to look like a massive value at his cautiously-low ADP. Godwin was the WR7 in fantasy points-per-game in 2021. Ty Montgomery Carted Off Field The battle to replace James White got more complicated Friday when Ty Montgomery had to be carted off the field after an ankle injury. Montgomery had started to take a good amount of backfield targets and mixed in some rushes. If an upcoming MRI reveals a severe injury, Pierre Strong could mix in on some passing downs. It’s also a potential boost for Rhamondre Stevenson. Stevenson is now a solid mid-round target with considerable upside. Treylon Burks Struggles It hasn’t been a good summer for No. 18 overall pick Treylon Burks. Burks has been plagued by conditioning issues and reportedly is well behind Nick Westbrook-Ikhine as the club’s second perimeter starter. Now Burks is dealing with a left leg injury that kept him sidelined. We still like the long-term dynasty potential, but at this point, Burks is barely a WR4/5 in redraft leagues. Jahan Dotson Continues to Shine After the 2022 NFL Draft, the Commanders supposedly considered Jahan Dotson as the most NFL-ready wideout. That actually looks reasonable now as Dotson has been Carson Wentz‘s favorite target all summer. Dotson has locked up a starting spot and could have a clear path to a ton of targets. He’s an excellent mid-to-late round value as his current ADP. Ronald Jones Could Be Released According to ESPN, Ronald Jones could be left off Kansas City’s 53-man roster. Despite looking solid with an 8/43 line against Green Bay’s second-team defense, Jones appears to be fourth on the Chiefs’ depth chart. While Jerick McKinnon and Isiah Pacheco excel at pass-catching, Jones is a one-dimensional option who will have a hard time earning snaps even if he makes the team. Joe Flacco Poised to Start Week 1 There was cautious optimism in New York when the ugly injury that felled Zach Wilson turned out to reportedly be a bone bruise and torn meniscus. Wilson had surgery and still has no timetable to return, which puts Joe Flacco in a position to make at least one start. Flacco is a savvy veteran and probably a better downfield passer than Wilson, so it’s not out of the realm of possibilities that Flacco could steal the starting job. Flacco should be on the radar in Superflex formats but can be safely ignored in the vast majority of fantasy leagues. Kenny Pickett Gaining Ground Steelers’ first-round QB Kenny Pickett has closed the gap with presumptive starter Mitchell Trubisky. The battle is now so close that Pickett might have a legitimate shot at winning the job outright with a strong showing in Pittsburgh’s final preseason tilt. We still anticipate the club starting Trubisy in Week 1 but the leash will be short. It’s a situation to avoid in redraft but Pickett has some dynasty appeal. Jaguars Sign PK Mike Badgley Kickers matter too, sorta. Badgley spent his first three seasons as the Chargers kicker before bouncing around the league. He was solid subbing in for the Colts in 2021. Badgley comes in as a top-25 option in our rankings but is well off the fantasy radar. NFL Training Camp Update August 22

The regular season is getting tantalizingly close. But before it arrives, our NFL Training Camp Update August 22 catches you up on all the fantasy-relevant news and notes you’ll need to crush your fantasy football draft. Also, FullTime Fantasy’s training camp battles to watch for both the AFC and NFC are a good starting point for staying up-to-date on fantasy-relevant news. It’s also important to keep an eye on those 2022 fantasy football deep sleepers this summer. Here are the news and notes from the third week of preseason and don’t forget to check out Jody’s ZERO-RB Targets and Scott’s 2022 Team Outlooks. Deshaun Watson Suspended 11 Games The NFL and NFLPA agreed on an 11-games suspension this week for Watson. This is the final decision so you can now draft accordingly. He will return just in time to play non-other than the Houston Texans. He is expected to immediately be the starter upon his return. Mike Gesicki to See Fewer Opportunities Gesicki is still the primary pass-catching tight end for the Dolphins, but word out of camp is that his role will be significantly diminished this season in a new scheme with weapons added on the outside. He should be viewed as a fringe TE1 per our 2022 Fantasy Football Rankings. Irv Smith Returns Despite undergoing recent thumb surgery, it looks like he could be ready to go for Week 1. He’s back at practice and looks like his recovery has gone as well as possible. Injuries are still a concern for Smith, however, he should be viewed as a high-upside tight end option later in your drafts. We could see his ADP climb quickly with this news. Treylon Burks Continues to Struggle Top wideout prospect and first-round pick Treylon Burks has struggled at Titans’ camp to this point. It was a bad sign when he played into the fourth quarter in this weekend’s preseason game and contributed next to nothing. He caught just one of three targets for four yards. He’s looking like a redraft afterthought this season. Ronald Jones on the Outs? All the buzz out of Chiefs’ camp is that Jones is in serious jeopardy of losing his roster spot. The team is expected to keep three running backs and the ascension of rookie Isaiah Pacheco appears to have potentially made Jones expendable. Matt Corral to Miss 2022 Season The Panthers’ rookie quarterback suffered a Lisfranc injury this week and could miss the entire season. He was unlikely to play this season anyway, but a year of practice on an NFL team could help his development. It’s also not out of the realm of possibilities that Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold could falter this year. Brian Robinson Makes Play for RB1 Role After a disastrous preseason Week 1, word out of the nation’s capital is that Antonio Gibson was running with the backups and special teams. This was proven true this week as Robinson served as the starting running back and Gibson was the kick returner. This offseason has been a disaster for Gibson managers and Robinson may be a potential flex option with upside. Patriots Lose Standout Rookie Tyquan Thorton Thorton has been the best receiver at Pats’ camp this summer. They will now be without him for about eight weeks after he suffered a collarbone injury in this week’s preseason game. This should give a boost to the other wideouts. The biggest beneficiary may be DeVante Parker. Dameon Pierce #SZN Initially during the Texans’ Week 2 preseason game fantasy owners began to panic as Pierce didn’t see a snap in the first half. When he didn’t play in the second half the fantasy community celebrated as it’s being speculated, he was held out of the game because the team views him as their starter. He has been skyrocketing up draft boards this summer. Miles Sanders Dealing with Hamstring Sanders has been dealing with a hamstring injury, but the Eagles believe he will be ready for Week 1. He’s not a lock to be out there, however, things are trending in the right direction. If he misses Week 1, Kenneth Gainwell will be a popular sleeper, but you should not overlook Boston Scott either. Is it Still Romeo Doubs #SZN? This week the rookie wide receiver who has been so hyped up all summer was dragged back down to earth. First, his quarterback Aaron Rodgers had some criticisms of him. Then, ESPN’s Rob Demovsky reports that he expects Doubs to be the WR4 in Green Bay this year. His value took a hit this week. Donald Parham Week-to-Week Parham gained rave reviews early in the summer at Chargers’ camp as he battled Gerald Everett for snaps at tight end. However, a hamstring injury has set him back and that job is very much up in the air now. The team hopes he can start easing his way back into practice next week, but his role to start the season is looking very dicey. Michael Gallup Running Routes Gallup got out on the field Thursday and ran routes for the first time since tearing his ACL last season. It’s still unlikely he’s ready when the Cowboys kick off Week 1 and he’s a candidate to open the season on the PUP list. That would keep him out the first four games. Still, this is a good sign for his fantasy value this season. Jaylen Warren Running as Pittsburgh’s RB2 The undrafted rookie looks to have surpassed Benny Snell as the RB2 in Pittsburgh. While the RB2 in Pittsburgh has very little stand-alone value if Najee Harris was to miss time, he could be a significant fantasy factor. We’ve seen it in the past with James Conner and DeAngelo Williams. They like having a bell-cow back so Warren is worth a look if you want to handcuff Harris. Now that you’ve read our NFL Training Camp Update August 22, you know everything there
