Week 1 Fantasy Football Sleepers

Week 1 Fantasy Football Sleepers The NFL season is just around the corner, and with it, Week 1 of fantasy football is here. But let’s be honest—Week 1 is the wildest and most unpredictable week of the NFL season. Fantasy managers are left guessing how teams will operate, how specific players will be utilized, and how new coaching staffs will adjust the play-calling. What if you start someone who ends up riding the bench all game? What if all those glowing training camp reports were misleading? Don’t worry too much. In Week 1, it’s all about minimizing risk. You want to lean on players with the most secure roles and avoid unnecessary gambles. Of course, not every team has the luxury of such stability, and some situations will require a bit more insight. To help you out, here’s a look at a few Week 1 Fantasy Football Sleepers to start to kick off the 2024-25 NFL season. Baker Mayfield (QB) Tampa Bay Buccaneers You are probably only considering Baker Mayfield if you’re in a 2 QB League. He’s not a top-12 option, and Week 1 is all about starting your strongest players. However, if you’re in a pinch, Mayfield could surprise. The Washington Commanders were the league’s worst pass defense last season, allowing the most passing yards and touchdowns. While the departure of offensive coordinator Dave Canales might hinder the Buccaneers’ offense, Week 1 presents a prime opportunity for Mayfield and the Bucs to exploit a weak Commanders’ defense. Jerome Ford (RB) Cleveland Browns In Week 1 against the Dallas Cowboys, Jerome Ford is set to handle a substantial workload. Given the Browns’ uncertainties at offensive tackle and Dallas’ formidable pass rush, Cleveland is expected to lean heavily on their ground game. The Cowboys’ defense, which ranked 15th in yards per carry allowed last season, is vulnerable enough to make the running game a focal point for the Browns. D’Onta Foreman poses a threat at the goal line, which limits Ford’s ceiling to a mid-tier flex play. Despite this, his strong PPR potential, with 44 receptions last season, makes him a viable starter in deeper leagues. J.K. Dobbins (RB) Los Angeles Chargers J.K. Dobbins, Gus Edwards, and former Ravens offensive coordinator Greg Roman all came to the Los Angeles Chargers this season. The rotation between Dobbins and Edwards remains uncertain. However, Dobbins was the main back in Baltimore when both were healthy. Dobbins’ injury history is a major concern, particularly his recent Achilles tear from Week 1 of the 2023 season. Achilles injuries can be career-altering for NFL running backs, and it’s unclear if Dobbins will return to form. In Week 1, when Dobbins faces the Las Vegas Raiders, managers in deeper leagues should consider starting him, albeit with tempered expectations as he returns from a significant injury. Dontayvion Wicks (WR) Green Bay Packers Philadelphia’s revamped secondary is the key question for those rostering Green Bay Packers receivers in Week 1. The truth is, we’re venturing into the unknown. Philly’s defense should improve from last year’s dismal performance (ranking 31st in passing yards allowed) with the arrival of new defensive backs and Vic Fangio as the defensive coordinator. This uncertainty makes Packers wideout Dontayvion Wicks an intriguing option in deeper leagues. Additionally, Wicks showed promise as a rookie, racking up 581 yards and 4 touchdowns, and he has the potential to become a key target for Jordan Love in 2024. I included Wicks as a league-winning pick in the latest FullTime Fantasy Podcast. Rashid Shaheed (WR) New Orleans Saints Shaheed is gearing up for a favorable Week 1 matchup against the Carolina Panthers. Managers should be licking their chops at this one, despite the Panthers quietly holding their own against receivers last season. Even with the potential for a positive game script, the Saints are likely to keep their offense aggressive against this division rival, giving Shaheed ample opportunities to make an impact downfield. Expect the Saints to target Shaheed with some big plays early, setting the tone from the get-go. While he may not be a volume target this season, his ability to deliver explosive plays makes him a high-upside WR3/FLEX option. Pat Freiermith (TE) Pittsburgh Steelers One of the major coaching changes in the league is coordinator Arthur Smith, who historically runs a tight-end friendly offense. Pat Freiermuthh will be the beneficiary if that’s how the season plays out. Pat Freiermuth has a favorable matchup against Atlanta’s defense. Freiermuth ranks 10th among TEs in PFF receiving grade. Additionally, he’s facing an Atlanta defense that ranked 32nd in yards per route run allowed vs TEs last year. Therefore, you should feel free to start Freiermuth if you don’t possess one of the elite tight ends. ENTER OUR WEEK 1 DRAFT CONTEST! Jody Smith’s 2024 Fantasy Football Sleepers

The 2024 NFL preseason is officially underway. That means it is almost fantasy draft season- the most wonderful time of the year! For football fans, at least.

Fantasy football drafts have been going for some time and we have well-established ADPs to determine value. Using up-to-date draft positions and our 2024 fantasy football projections, we can mine out players who look ripe for exploiting their value. These sleepers can make all the difference between compiling a competitive roster and a real championship contender.

Here are some of my favorite values and sleepers to target in 2024 fantasy football drafts.

Quarterbacks

Brock Purdy (San Francisco 49ers) – My most-rostered quarterback so far this season is Brock Purdy. After finishing as the QB6 last season, I’m not sure why the fantasy world seems to be out of Purdy. He is regularly available outside of QB1 range. However, Purdy is the perfect fit in Kyle Shanahan’s offense- a unit that ranked 4th in passing and 3rd in scoring in 2023. Also, the Niners are bringing back the same players who led the club to the Super Bowl. Finally, the 49ers have the easiest schedule for quarterbacks per FullTime’s Strength of Schedule Tool.

Trevor Lawrence (Jacksonville Jaguars) – Overall, the quarterback position is very deep in 2024. That depth is another reason to simply wait to draft your signal caller and load up on other positions early. Like Brock Purdy, Trevor Lawrence faired better last season than fantasy managers seem to recall. Lawrence’s 2023 output (QB12) was eerily similar to his 2022 showing (QB7). Additionally, the Jaguars added Gabriel Davis and Brian Thomas Jr., giving Lawrence plenty of weapons. Lawrence has been durable and can boost his fantasy output on the ground behind an improved offensive line. Despite a rough schedule, I think he will contend for top-10 fantasy numbers once again. That makes Lawrence another solid value to target late in drafts.

Bo Nix (Denver Broncos) – I’m not saying Nix is an option in single-QB formats, but…

There is certainly no shortage of analytics and data available to fantasy football enthusiasts. One of the most useful tools available to the well-prepared fantasy drafter is to break down the strength of schedule for each position. FullTime’s 2024 Fantasy Football Strength of Schedule: RB looks at the most crucial position to give you a draft-day edge.

While there is plenty of strength of schedule analysis out there, FullTime Fantasy breaks down the data in a unique way. In addition to season-long data, FullTime Fantasy Members get access to all positions including IDP. Also, the data can be sorted by remaining games and broken down into sections. This can be especially helpful for high-stakes and tournament drafters looking for the edge during the fantasy playoffs.

After breaking down quarterbacks previously, here is a deep dive into the 2023 Fantasy Football Strength of Schedule: RB and how to take advantage of that data this draft season.

The numbers listed include Weeks 1-17.

Favorable Schedules

Kyren Williams (Los Angeles Rams) – A league-winner in 2023, Kyren Williams is still being discounted in 2024. The addition of Blake Corum factors into that, but Williams was the second-best running back in fantasy football last season in fantasy points per game. Additionally, Sean McVay prefers to…

2024 Fantasy Football Strength of Schedule: QB

There is certainly no shortage of analytics and data available to fantasy football enthusiasts. One of the most useful tools available to the well-prepared fantasy drafter is to break down the strength of schedule for each position. FullTime Fantasy‘s 2024 Fantasy Football Strength of Schedule: QB looks at the most crucial position to give you a draft-day edge. There is also a lot of strength of schedule analysis out there, but FullTime Fantasy breaks down the data in a unique way. In addition to season-long data, FullTime Fantasy Members get access to all positions including IDP. Also, the data can be sorted by remaining games and broken down into sections. This can be especially helpful for high-stakes and tournament drafters looking for the edge during the fantasy playoffs. Here is a deep dive into the 2024 Fantasy Football Strength of Schedule: QB and how to take advantage of that data this draft season. The numbers listed include Weeks 1-17.   Favorable Schedules Brock Purdy (San Francisco 49ers) – After finishing as the QB in 2023, Brock Purdy is one of the most undervalued players in fantasy football. Purdy is a perfect fit in Kyle Shanahan’s offense. He led the NFL in yards per attempt and has one of the top supporting casts in football. Purdy has won 17 of his 21 career regular-season starts and oddsmakers expect that success to continue. San Francisco is projected to repeat as NFC champions and the 2024 NFL schedule sets up very favorably. In addition to six games against their defensively-challenged NFC West rivals, San Francisco’s second-half schedule has matchups against bottom-10 secondaries in Tampa, Miami, and Detroit. Also, that fantasy playoff slate versus the Dolphins and Lions looks appealing in tournament leagues. Dak Prescott (Dallas Cowboys) – There are myriad reasons to be concerned about Dak Prescott and the Dallas passing game peaking last season. However, if the Cowboys contend with top-5 offensive numbers again, their easy quarterback schedule will play a big role. After a challenging start, Prescott should thrive in the second half of the 2024 slate. Starting in Week 9, Dallas plays four consecutive games versus opponents that were below average in terms of ceding fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks. Additionally, the Cowboys have a phenomenal fantasy playoff stretch, including a home game against a Tampa defense that allowed the ninth-most fantasy points to the position and a fantasy finale in Philadelphia versus an Eagles’ secondary that surrendered the second-most. Sounds like an over/under north of 50 points. Just what the fantasy doctors ordered. Caleb Williams (Chicago Bears) – The Bears have never had a quarterback exceed 4,000 passing yards or throw for 30 touchdowns in a season. Enter No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams, one of the most heralded QB prospects in recent years. Williams threw for 4,537 yards and 42 scores en route to 2022 Heisman honors at USC. Williams is an accurate gunslinger who will give Matt Eberflus and the Bears a legitimate shot at challenging franchise records in both categories right away. Chicago is stacked with weapons, including WRs D.J. Moore, Keenan Allen, Rome Odunze, and RB D’Andre Swift. And Chicago’s schedule sets up well for Williams to post fantasy-relevant numbers immediately. The Bears have six games against opponents that ranked inside the bottom 7 in points allowed to QBs last season. Also, both of the team’s fantasy postseason tilts against Detroit and Seattle’s subpar secondaries will be in Chicago. Jordan Love (Green Bay Packers) – Last season, FullTime Fantasy’s strength of schedule analysis helped predict Jordan Love’s breakout. In 2024, Love again has an intriguing slate of games that indicate he won’t be a flash in the pan. The Packers get those six games against the weak NFC North secondaries. However, they also play the Chargers, Cardinals, Texans, Jaguars, Dolphins, and Seahawks. Each team was below average in allowing fantasy points to quarterbacks last season. Additionally, one thing that always needs to be factored into Green Bay’s schedule is the weather. Starting in Week 9, the Packers have six games that winter conditions could impact. Still, Love looked like the real deal in 2023 and will contend for top-10 fantasy numbers in his second season as the starter. Patrick Mahomes (Kansas City Chiefs) – When all is said and done, I believe Patrick Mahomes will be my QB1 for 2024. While last year was a bit of a struggle, Kansas City’s offseason additions, Josh Allen’s offseason losses, and KC’s schedule are indicative of a huge rebound for the league’s top signal caller. Expect the new offense to get out to a fast start. After a potentially tough opener, the Chiefs play three consecutive games versus opponents who were in the bottom 12 against the pass last season. Mahomes also gets to face the NFC South and has a tantalizing three-game home stretch starting in Week 13 against the Raiders. Xavier Worthy and Hollywood Brown are both huge upgrades for a Chiefs’ passing attack that was rather stagnant in 2023 without a downfield speed element. Plus, the seventh-easiest fantasy schedule for Mahomes sets up nicely for the two-time defending champs. Other schedules to target: J.J McCarthy (3rd), Bryce Young 5th), Lamar Jackson (8th)   Difficult Schedules Tua Tagovailoa (Miami Dolphins) – Last summer, the concerns about Tua Tagovailoa were health-related. However, Tagovailoa stayed healthy for the first time in his career and led the NFL with 4,624 passing yards. While that was a huge plus, Tagovailoa only ranked 20th in fantasy points per game and offers nothing as a runner. Those are legitimate concerns at a QB position that is as deep as it’s ever been. Additionally, the schedule makers didn’t do the Dolphins any favors in 2024. Miami has the league’s hardest schedule for the QB position. The Dolphins have six games against the Jets (2nd), Bills (5th), and Patriots (8th) elite secondaries. Additionally, Miami’s fantasy playoff slate is imposing. In Week 16, the Dolphins host the defending NFC champions who ranked sixth against

Fantasy Football Sleepers: Week 2

brock purdy

Fantasy Football Sleepers: Week 2 After reinforcing your roster via the waiver wire and knowing who to start and sit, the next best way to increase your odds at a Week 2 victory is to know which players to target. Our Fantasy Football Sleepers: Week 2 is here to do just that. Plus, we’ve added some daily pricing info to appeal to also appeal to the DFS crowd. All Prices listed are at DraftKings for Week 2.   Quarterbacks   Baker Mayfield (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) $5200 Mayfield won over his teammates in Week 1 with his ability to read defenses and recognize signals. The Bears’ defense played uninspired in their home opener and I don’t see a defensive revival in Tampa. The loyal Bucs fans will be behind Mayfield and he’s always fueled by emotions. Brock Purdy (San Francisco 49ers) $5700 Many drafters ignored Purdy and he had an impressive Week 1 performance. The 49ers will push the ball more downfield this year and WR Brandon Aiyuk is coming into his own. I like the fast play at Sofi in this matchup and expect plenty of points.    Running Backs   Joshua Kelley (Los Angeles Charger) $5000 Austin Ekeler isn’t playing on Sunday. That means Joshua Kelley will get plenty of opportunities after an impressive showing in Week 1. Kelly has always had the talent and new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore will utilize his strengths. Also, this game has a ton of shootout potential. Kelley offers a very high floor for his cost.  Isiah Pacheco (Kansas City Chiefs) $5700 I anticipate a high-scoring game in Jacksonville and could see Pacheco with a ton of touches. Pacheco just missed a rushing TD in Week 1 and I believe he will make up for that this week facing a vulnerable Jacksonville Jaguars defense. I’m buying Pacheco while his stock is low.   Wide Receivers   Trey Palmer (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) $3700 This is a gut feel call but I envision Palmer making an impact in the home opener for the Bucs. There were whispers during camp that Baker Mayfield was vibing with Palmer. The Chicago secondary was getting torched against the Packers. I expect that trend to continue in Week 2. Zay Jones (Jacksonville Jaguars) $4700 Zay Jones had an excellent camp and was oftentimes Trevor Lawrence’s most favorable target in the red zone. Jones is familiar with the playbook and Jacksonville’s play calling does an excellent job of integrating Jones into the mix as the third wideout. Also, Jones’s 62 Week 1 snaps were five more than Calvin Ridley played.    Tight Ends   Logan Thomas (Washington Commanders) $3100 Thomas has always been an impactful fantasy TE when healthy and that was evident against the Cardinals when Thomas led the Commanders with eight targets. With Denver’s impressive pass rush, Thomas may get many looks in what should be a gritty matchup versus the Broncos. Thomas’s 81.7% snap rate from Week 1 indicated he’ll be more involved in Week 2. Zach Ertz (Arizona Cardinals) $3500 With Josh Dobbs behind center and new to the system. Ertz serves as a nice safety valve in the matchup vs. the Giants. Ertz Week one 20.8% target rate was number one amongst all tight ends last week.   Lastly, If you have time to prepare, make sure you mock in our Mock Draft World Championships. Call them sleepers, flag plants, ‘my guys’, hidden gems, or values. Targeting players who are primed to exceed their current ADP is a tried and true strategy for fantasy success. After writing up our FullTime Fantasy Sleeper of the Year, these are my personal 2023 Fantasy Football Sleepers.

Some of the players may not be considered traditional sleepers. They might be considered closer to draft-day values. However, these are players that I have been consistently targeting in drafts. Also, I believe they will exceed their current value.

For more sleepers to target, check out our deep-sleeper wide receivers, tight ends, and fades. All of this exclusive content is part of the 2023 FullTime Fantasy Draft Kit.

Now, let’s break down the 2023 fantasy football sleepers and values that I am targeting this season.

Quarterbacks

Justin Herbert (Los Angeles Chargers) – Herbert isn’t a sleeper by any means. However, I’m including him because I feel Herbert belongs in the conversation of top-tier signal callers. The arrival of offensive coordinator Kellen Moore should do wonders for LA’s offense. Volume is already there, but I’m forecast some positive touchdown regression. Herbert is firmly my QB4, well above his FantasyPros ECR.

Russell Wilson (Denver Broncos) – Wilson was my pick for Comeback Player of the Year in my Preseaon Pro. Wilson was victimized by terrible coaching last year. The arrival of Sean Payton alleviates that concern. Off the heels of a hot December and fortified by a top-10 schedule, Wilson looks like a top-10 fantasy QB that you can often snag in the last few rounds of fantasy drafts.

Desmond Ridder (Atlanta Falcons) – Is Ridder a breakout candidate with QB1 upside? No. However…

Reading between the tea leaves is a big part of having success in fantasy sports. Understanding the direction of a player, either by his natural progression or his status coming off an injury, can lead to finding a potential value or a player to avoid. Finding the right mid-round running backs to target on draft day is an important strategy.

And speaking of strategy, the FullTime Fantasy Draft Kit is loaded with exclusive, league-winning tips and advice to help you DOMINATE YOUR LEAGUE! This includes our No.1 rankings, sleepers, fades, and much more!

Identifying Mid-Round Value

In the early draft season, there are too many values at different positions in fantasy football. This creates almost a false ADP for someone jumping into drafts in August. The flow of players in June and July, before the general public catches up with drafting inventory, is built on different buying opportunities.

As training camp news flows and players start getting positive reviews, the ADPs begin to change. This tightens up the player pool and makes it more challenging to execute an early draft plan. Once this happens, the better drafters will make tradeoffs at specific points. This is to secure the most critical players for their fantasy team.

This thought process brings me to the running back options after the first 17 or 18 backs come over the table. Typically, in the BestBall formats that I have been drafting, the running backs come off in this order midway through the fifth round:

Running Backs to Target

Behind each player’s name is a skill set and a story, requiring the casual drafter to understand before deciding who to select. These running back aren’t equal, and a couple will become difference-makers in 2023. Here’s my quick back story on each player.

Kenneth Walker – Excellent rookie season showcasing explosive runs and scoring. He struggled in pass protection, and Seattle brought in competition to play on passing downs. In addition, Walker had a slight groin issue in mid-August that is progressing.

Alexander Mattison – Tempting player based on him expected to start for a high-scoring offense and his success at times as a fill-in for Dalvin Cook. He gained 3.7 yards on his last 208 rushing attempts and 6.8 yards per catch over 47 receptions. With Cook in New York, Mattison has a higher chance of being a wasted pick in the fifth round than an impact player. If he struggles out the gate…
