Fantasy Football Sleepers: Week 2

Last week had its fair share of injuries and disappointing performances. Many fantasy footballers are resorting to the waiver wire already. Our Fantasy Football Sleepers: Week 2 helps you identify players who are in a good position to have solid outings in the second slate of games. Let’s take a look at some of those unheralded and under-the-radar starts that make solid fantasy football Sleepers: Week 2. Quarterbacks Carson Wentz (Washington Commanders) – Wentz is coming off a monster Week 1 in which he threw for 313 yards and four touchdowns. This week, his matchup may somehow get even better as he goes from the Jaguars to a Lions team who just had 38 points dropped on them by the Eagles. The weapons and the matchup are there for Wentz, he should be a viable option this week. Davis Mills (Houston Texans) – In 2021, Mills was the best rookie quarterback in the league and he continued to show growth last week. He’s not a world-beater, but he posted 240 yards with two TDs and no picks. This week he gets the Broncos who just made Geno Smith look like an All-Pro and they lost star safety, Justin Simmons. There isn’t a ton of upside here, however, he could be a solid QB2 in SuperFlex leagues. Running Backs Rhamondre Stevenson (New England Patriots) – After a disastrous Week 1 from a usage standpoint, the fantasy world is down on Stevenson. He could pull a full 180 this week. When you watch the Patriots play he looks like the best playmaker on a team that desperately needs one. With Ty Montgomery now on IR, his 37% snap count and six opportunities are up for grabs. Stevenson is projected to now be the top pass-catching back in New England barring a surprise emergence of Pierre Strong who struggled all summer. Stevenson will gradually see an increased role and the first big jump should be this week. Khalil Herbert (Chicago Bears) – Herbert saw nine carries last week compared to David Montgomery’s 17. Montgomery could only muster up 26 yards on 1.5 yards per carry. However, Herbert posted 45 yards at 5.0 yards per carry. It was with consistency as his longest carry was only 12 yards. When you watch these two backs run it’s clear who the more explosive rusher is. Even with limited touches, he has fantasy value and it’s hard to imagine his touches not consistently climbing moving forward. Rex Burkhead (Houston Texans) – Despite Burkhead getting 14 carries to Dameon Pierce’s 11, seeing eight targets to Pierce’s one, and appearing to be the goal-line back, Pierce is consistently ranked higher and started over Pierce on most platforms. The fantasy world may not be happy about it, but Burkhead is clearly the RB1 in Houston right now. A smart owner will put their emotions aside and treat him as such until something changes. Tyler Allgeier (Atlanta Falcons) – If Damien Williams is sidelined, and he’s yet to practice this week after getting knocked out early in Week 1, Allgeier becomes an interesting option. Before getting injured last week, Williams played the first 10 snaps of the game and saw two carries. This is the game plan the Falcons want to deploy. Unfortunately, Allgeier was inactive last week, but he should slide into the role this week. He is the deepest sleeper on this list. Nevertheless, he could be a tourney-winning type of DFS play. Wide Receivers Jahan Dotson (Washington Commanders) – For whatever reason, it appears to be lost on people that Dotson was a fairly high first-round pick this year. He was picked before Treylon Burks, but fantasy managers have never treated him like it. If any of the other top rookie wideouts had caught two TDs last week, fantasy owners would be going nuts. Just because he wasn’t talked up prior to the draft doesn’t mean he’s not as good or has less draft capital. It’s time to start showing him some respect and considering that he may be the real deal. He could light it up this week in a great matchup against the Lions. Donovan Peoples-Jones (Cleveland Browns) – DPJ led all Browns with 11 targets in Week 1 and it wasn’t close. Amari Cooper finished second with six. There is a real chance that he’s Jacoby Brissett’s guy. The matchup this week lines up perfectly for him too. The Jets have one good player in their secondary and Sauce Gardner is likely to be locked on Cooper. Gardner isn’t good, he’s outstanding. This could lead to another high-target game against a team who doesn’t have the talent to stop him. Devin Duvernay (Baltimore Ravens) – The assumption is Rashod Bateman is the clear-cut WR1 in Baltimore and nobody is close. However, that’s just a projection because he hasn’t done it yet. What if he’s not and Duvernay is right there with him? Bateman caught two of five targets for 59 yards and a TD while Duvernay caught all four of his targets for 54 yards and two TDs. The usage is nearly identical and Duvernay was more efficient. It could be a fluke, but maybe it’s not. Also, Bateman is expected to be shadowed by Xavien Howard while Miami is without their starting CB2. This matchup lines up well for Duvernay. Kyle Phillips (Tennessee Titans) – Phillips was the rookie wideout talked up all summer in Tennessee, not Treylon Burks. Then he came out in Week 1 and Phillips led the team in targets, receptions, and yards. He may be the WR1 in Tennessee. Just because we didn’t see it coming doesn’t mean it isn’t so. He has a shot to be a major PPR contributor and everything we’ve seen and heard points to him being well ahead of Burks and Robert Woods. Tight Ends Taysom Hill (New Orleans Saints) – Hill isn’t a tight end, but he is tight end eligible. There are so many

Fantasy Football Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em: Week 9

After a relatively painless bye week in Week 8, Week 9 offers up another challenging slate, with many fantasy stars unavailable. That makes knowing which players to start and who to sit crucial towards fielding a winning lineup . Here are some unheralded starters to consider this week and some other options to consider sitting as we head into Week 8 of the 2021 NFL season. Week 9 byes: Detroit Lions, Seattle Seahawks, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Washington Football Team In honor of King Henry, use promo code KING30 for 30% off FULLTIME FANTASY MEMBERSHIP!! Start Tua Tagovialoa (QB) Miami Dolphins We have seen Tua on this list a lot and here he is again. He struggled last week against the Buffalo Bills, but just about everybody struggles against the Bills’ defense who are allowing the fewest fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks. I fully expect Tua to bounce back this week against the Houston Texans. Houston is allowing the eighth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks and that ranking is better than it should be. Teams are often blowing out the Texans so they just stop throwing. It’s not a lock that the 1-7 Dolphins, who lost to the Jags and Falcons, and their terrible defense are a lock to blow out anybody. So Tua may be throwing all game long. The Dolphins should have close to a full complement of passing weapons minus Will Fuller. With a great matchup and weapons to throw to Tua should bounce back and have a big game like he had the previous two weeks before they went up against the Bills. Boston Scott (RB) Philadelphia Eagles As I mentioned last week, it was very possible Scott and not Kenneth Gainwell would be the main back in Philly. He got even more work than expected and didn’t relinquish the RB1 role until the game was completely out of hand and the backups were in. Jordan Howard will steal a lot of goal-line work, but Scott will still see work as we saw last week when he scored two touchdowns. Scott is a real-life RB1 going up against a Chargers’ defense allowing the fourth-most fantasy points to running backs. He is worth starting every week until Miles Sanders returns and then we will re-evaluate the backfield. Darrell Williams (RB) Kansas City Chiefs The Chiefs are making it a point to establish a rushing attack and Williams is the top back in KC right now. If he is getting double-digit carries and targets in that offense his upside is immense. The offense hasn’t been the offense we are used to seeing, but it’s more likely they get back on track than continue to struggle all season. Do not be afraid of the struggles of the passing game or Derrick Gore. Gore will get work but he’s the clear RB2 and will not steal Williams’s spot because they don’t like him in pass blocking or catching. DeVante Parker (WR) Miami Dolphins When Parker gets on the field he’s always the clear WR1 in Miami. He returned last week and caught eight of 11 targets for 85 yards. The targets will be there again this week, he will perform even better against a significantly worse defense and he’s a threat in the end zone in a game where the Dolphins should be scoring TDs. The only concern is he gets injured and leaves early and we can’t predict that. So plug him in and don’t worry about him. Emmanuel Sanders (WR) Buffalo Bills This is a reminder not to worry about Sanders after he gave you nothing last week. He struggled against the Dolphins last week and gave you no points. That sucks but it’s okay. Miami got Xavien Howard and Byron Jones back last week and Josh Allen couldn’t do anything on the outside. The Dolphins’ defense has been awful but they still have elite starting corners. In the second half, we saw Allen target Cole Beasley over and over. That’s the only area he had success. That won’t be the case this week against the Jags. He should be back in your lineup again and will bounce back. Tyler Conklin (TE) Minnesota Vikings Conklin saw seven targets last week and caught five of them for 58 yards. Only Adam Thielen saw more targets. This week the Vikings take on the Ravens. The Ravens are allowing the 10th-fewest fantasy points to receivers and the most fantasy points to tight ends. This is the best possible matchup Conklin can have and it’s clear he’s a big part of this offense. He’s a low-end TE1 this week and should be started. Sit Trevor Lawrence (QB) Jacksonville Jaguars Lawrence goes up against the Bills this week and can’t be started. It’s that simple. Buffalo’s defense is allowing the fewest fantasy points to quarterbacks, the fewest fantasy points to running backs, the second-fewest fantasy points to wide receivers, and the eighth-fewest fantasy points to tight ends. You need to consider sitting everyone against the Bills unless you have an absolute stud going up against them. The Jags have no studs and everyone on that offense should be benched. Mike Davis (RB) Atlanta Falcons Atlanta takes on a brutal Saints’ rush defense this week and Davis isn’t a very good running back. He is tough to trust in any matchup now that Cordarrelle Patterson has taken over as the top back for the Falcons. The combination of a lack of talent, loss of volume, and a bad matchup make Davis an easy sit. Your only hope is he catches five or six passes and falls into the end zone. It’s not impossible, but I’m not banking on the ceiling of a low-upside plodder. Adrian Peterson (RB) Tennessee Titans Peterson could easily come out and make me look stupid, but I’m not willing to start him days after he joined the team. We aren’t sure how the touches will be distributed or if Peterson will get close to what his full workload will eventually
Fantasy Football Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em: Week 5

We’re already four games into the 2021 NFL season. No matter how good or bad your September was, the best way for fantasy football managers to win in October is to know who to start and who to sit. Here are some unheralded players to consider starting, and a few to think about benching ahead of Week 5. Start Jameis Winston (QB) New Orleans Saints Predictably, Winston has been unpredictable this season. Less predictably, the Washington Football Teams’ pass defense has been atrocious. No defense is giving up more points to opposing fantasy quarterbacks than them. Touted as one of the best defenses entering the season, they have fallen flat on their faces. While Winston’s yard totals have been low, he’s faced a brutal schedule thus far and his touchdown to interception ratio is an impressive eight TDs to two interceptions. Impressive at least relative to what we’ve seen from him in the past. We know he has the upside to produce monster games and if he is ever going to have a monster breakout game it’s this week. If you’re searching your waivers for a streamable option then Winston is your man for Week 5. Mike Davis (RB) Atlanta Falcons Saying Davis has failed to impress would be an understatement. Cordarrelle Patterson siphoning off his touches and badly outperforming him hasn’t helped his case either. However, Davis is still getting a decent amount of touches. Through four weeks he still has 49 carries and 16 receptions. His volume is still notable despite a lack of production. This week the Falcons take on the Jets, who are allowing the most fantasy points to opposing running backs this season. Despite the lowly Jets finally getting a win against a broken Titans’ team, the Falcons will still likely be leading this game leading to a positive game script for Davis. At this point, he is only startable in the best of matchups. That’s exactly what he has this week. Chuba Hubbard (RB) Carolina Panthers Hubbard didn’t exactly blow the doors off last week against the Cowboys in his first shot at the starting role. Nonetheless, it’s not time to give up on him with the Philadelphia Eagles coming to town. They are giving up the sixth-most points to fantasy running backs and Hubbard is a lock for double-digit carries and a couple of receptions. As long as Sam Newton, I’m sorry Sam Darnold, doesn’t continue to dominate the goal line rushing touchdowns, Hubbard should have a shot at a big day if he can find the end zone for the first time in his young career. My assumption is Darnold’s sudden stranglehold on goal-line work is an aberration and the running backs should start scoring touchdowns at some point. He is currently all alone with a league-leading five rushing TDs and that seems unsustainable to say the least. DeVante Parker (WR) Miami Dolphins Parker has seen strong volume and has an outstanding matchup this week. He faces off against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers who have been dreadful against the pass and week after week has wide receivers torch them. No defense has given up more fantasy points to opposing wideouts. This defense is dominant against running backs but is nothing to fear if you want to start anyone involved in the passing attack against them. The floor for Parker is ideal, especially with Will Fuller out with a broken finger. He’s already averaging eight targets a game with his season-low being seven and he’s caught at least four passes in every game this season while averaging over 14 yards per catch. He’s a safe flex option this week and you may even be able to find him on your waiver wire in more shallow leagues. His production should only increase once Tua returns, so if he’s on waivers add him and plug him in this Sunday. Marvin Jones (WR) Jacksonville Jaguars With D.J. Chark out for the season, we no longer have to wonder which Jags receiver to start each week. I expect his volume to increase noticeably with Chark sidelined and Jones has a wonderful matchup this week against the Titans. The same Titans who managed to lose to the Jets last week. Only the Bucs are allowing more fantasy points to wide receivers. There is no reason to complicate this. Jones has a big opportunity and the Titans are bad. Odds are he’ll be a starter most week from here on out regardless of matchup, so you can’t bench him when he plays this secondary. C.J. Uzomah (TE) Cincinatti Bengals Uzomah saw his production skyrocket last week with Tee Higgins out. He caught five passes for 95 yards and two TDs. Before that game, he had four catches for 39 yards and no TDs all season. This is both encouraging and alarming. It also doesn’t help that Higgins has not been ruled out this week. However, the matchup is ideal. The Bengals will have to throw often to try to keep up with the Green Bay Packers offense. The Packers just so happen to be giving up the seventh-most points to fantasy tight ends and the eighth-fewest points to fantasy wideouts. Their elite corners help them shut down receivers, but they can’t seem to get a handle on the tight end position. If you are streaming TEs this week, Uzomah is a solid option. Sit Ben Roethlisberger (QB) Pittsburgh Steelers Roethlisberger has an awful matchup this week against the Denver Broncos. So he should be nowhere near your starting lineup. More importantly, we are reaching a point that he should no longer even be on your roster anymore. In reality, he probably shouldn’t be on an NFL roster after this season. He’s an all-time great and a future Hall of Famer, but it’s time to let him go. Yes, this matchup is truly a nightmare, but the bigger issue is that he is washed. Myles Gaskin (RB) Miami Dolphins It has become abundantly clear over the first few weeks
