FFWC High-Stakes Recap: Week 9
Points were at a premium during Week 9 of the 2023 Fulltime Fantasy Football regular season. With some high-scoring teams on a BYE, plus 7 of 14 games totaling 37 points or less, we had our lowest-scoring week of the season. Here is a look at the Top 20 Leaderboards across the four Major FFWC XI Tournaments in our FFWC High-Stakes Recap: Week 9. Fantasy Football World Championship Missing the fantasy firepower of the Lions, Jaguars, and 49ers, plus several dismal QB performances, scoring was down in the race to claim the $150K FFWC XI Grand Prize. After a season-high 90,053.45 points were scored last week, the total fell to 76,963.00 combined points this week. Five new teams joined the FTF World Championship Top 20 Leaderboard following Week 9 action. Including the overall leader, just three positions in the Top 20 went unchanged week-over-week. For the eighth straight week, Just(in) Time (6-3) continues as the FFWC XI overall leader. Partly due to a down week for QB Justin Herbert, plus missing RB Christian McCaffrey due to a BYE, Simeon Yarbrough and Brian Marzorini posted a season-low 119.90 points. That helped draw the top ten teams closer together. Down from 86.50 points last week, the gap is now 58.70 points. With the most points in FFWC SLOW 4, Just(in) Time sits in the #2 playoff spot. Sitting with a 9-0 record, House of Orange owns the #1 playoff spot. Moving up two spots, from fourth to second, Team Honeycutt sits just 13.25 points out of first overall. Steve Honeycutt‘s FFWC Online 8/22 9 PM ET squad posted 154.10 points. C.J. Stroud, a $360 Week 4 FAAB acquisition, led the way with 46.50 points. Steve’s squad leads his league by 152.35 points and sits tied at 8-1 with Team Meyer. Those two squads battle H2H in two weeks. Slipping one spot, Zefurs went from second to third overall. Despite posting a season-low 107.40 points, KJ Duke’s (8-1) won his H2H match with Cobb Nation (7-2). Zefurs now has the Best Record, and the Most Points, in FFWC 9/3 9 PM ET. With five weeks to go, KJ has moved into a $10K Dominator position. New to the top five, Zefurs II (7-2) has moved from 34th back in Week 6, to 15th, then sixth, and now fourth overall. KJ Dukes FFWC Online 9/3 1 PM ET team posted 147.50 points. He now sits just 9.00 points behind his third-place squad. He also closed the gap from 64.15 to 36.55 points in the race for first place overall. Rounding out the top five, Mr Yellow Stickers (7-2) slipped from third to fifth place. Mike Schlissberg’s crew posted 104.9 points and sits 45.85 points out of the top spot. Based on the current standings, Mike leads the Most Points race by 214.35 in his FFWC CIRCA 9/9 3 PM PT league. His lead is over Surf n Turf who, despite a 2-7 record, has 1255.10 points and currently holds the Most Points #2 playoff position. Our FFWC XI “Shout Out of the Week” goes to Nugget 10 (4-5) who posted a FFWC Week 9 high 195.20 points. Justin Herron’s FFWC Online 9/2 1 PM ET squad moved from 306th to 150th overall and into a playoff position. Nugget 10 moved into the Most Points #1 playoff position in his league. The Most Points #2 playoff position belongs to Team Meyer (3-6) who is just 24.70 points back. Justin defeated William 195.20 to 160.05 in their H2H matchup last week. After 14 teams posted at least 200 points last week, no one reached that plateau during Week 9 action. Down slightly from 22.48 last week, if the playoffs started this week, just 18.40 points would separate the Top 100 FFWC XI teams. The undefeated number dropped, from seven teams at 8-0 last week, to five heading into Week 10. Miss New Booty VII (6th OA), Angels Envy (15th), House of Orange I (28th), Team Stanton (51st), and Team Salamone (82nd) are still perfect with a 9-0 record Circa Las Vegas Fantasy Championship Our inaugural FullTime Fantasy Circa LVFC Tournament went from season-high scoring last week to the lowest-scoring week of the year. After 158,114.20 combined points were scored in Week 8, the total slipped to 134,042.00 during Week 9 action. Four new teams entered the Top 20 Leaderboard and the Top 5 overall shifted slightly. Similar to the FFWC XI Tournament, many of the Circa LVFC leaders stumbled last week as well. Team Leave It In posted 122.95 points and retained first overall for a third straight week. Mike Moore and Mike Scherneck’s Circa LVFC 9/6 10 PM ET team pushed their record to 7-2. They currently sit in the Most Points #1 playoff position in their league, and trail Team Two From the Q (8-1) by one game. Moving up three spots, Team Reece (7-2) went from fifth to second overall. Dustin Reece’s Circa LVFC 8/5 11:45 PM ET squad posted 141.25 points. During a low-scoring week, that was the highest total of the current top seven teams. After entering the week 46.60 off the lead, Dustin is now 28.30 points out of first overall. Retaining third place, for a second straight week, Team Mitchell 2 (9-0) stumbled along with the rest of the leaders. Mark Mitchell’s LVFC 7/15/23 squad posted 126.35 points but remains as one of just four undefeated teams. Mark sits 34.35 points out of first place and leads his league by 151.55 points. Team 2 Bros DP (6-3) slipped from second to fourth overall. Robbie Dinges and Pat Evevard’s Circa LVFC SLOW 5 squad posted 119.05 points. Team 2 Bros DP are 37.10 points out of first and lead their league by 154.60 points. Robbie and Pat face a BYE quagmire that will test the depth of their squad during Week 10 action. Brown (8/130/2) were the other two players to post impact games. Ten wide receivers scored between 21.00 and 26.00 fantasy points, giving daily gamers many outs this week. Elite Options
A.J. Brown, PHI (DK – $8,600/FD – $9,000)
With Ja’Marr Chase, Tyreek Hill, and Stefon Diggs off the main slate on Sunday, Brown will be a popular player at the top end at wide receiver. He has been exceptionally hot over his last six games (9/131, 9/175/2, 6/127, 7/131, 10/137/1, and 8/130/2), averaging 30.02 fantasy points in DraftKings scoring. Four of his five touchdowns came against Washington. Brown had two solid games (5/67/1 and 6/103) in 2022 vs. the Cowboys.
Dallas ranks second defending wide receivers (58/819/4 on 114 targets). Keenan Allen (7/85/1) posted the best game, and no wideout has gained more than 100 yards against the Cowboys. Their success in coverage has been helped by facing four poor passing offenses (NYG, NYJ, ARI, and NE). Dallas tends to keep their top two outside cornerbacks (Stefon Gilmore and DaRon Bland) at the same position on the field for most plays, That will allow the Eagles to get more favorable matchups for their top wide receiver. On the year, Gilmore and Bland allowed a combined 35 catches on 72 targets for 483 yards and two scores (Per PFF). Slot cornerback Jourdan Lewis is the weak link in coverage (12/168/3 on 19 targets).
The injury to CB Trevor Diggs should be exposed by the Eagles’ passing game in Week 9. Brown will get his chances, and he is trending forward in scoring. His winning streak stands at six games. But can his ticket come in every week?
Cooper Kupp, LAR (DK – $8,500/FD – $8,700)
The Steelers and Cowboys shut down Kupp over the past two weeks (2/29 and 4/21 on 17 combined targets). His regression in catch rate (35.2) over this span is a concern. And Los Angeles lost their passing magic from Week 5 to Week 8 (222/2, 226/1, 231/1, and 204/1) despite playing three games at home and having Kupp back in the starting lineup. The Rams had him on the field for all of their plays over the last three weeks, and he did shine vs. the Eagles (8/118) and Cardinals (7/148/1).

Top-Tier Options
Alvin Kamara, NO (DK – $8,100/FD – $9,200)
The excellent opportunity continued in Week 8 for Kamara. He gained 110 combined yards with two touchdowns and four catches on 21 touches against the Colts. The Saints gave him the ball 125 times over his first five starts, leading to 110 yards and 7.8 catches per game. Taysom Hill sniped three rushing touchdowns over the past two weeks while also stealing 14 rushes for 81 yards.
Chicago ranks 27th in running back defense (25.54 FPPG), with most of their struggles coming over the first three games (34.50, 23.20, and 46.30 fantasy points). The Bears continue to play well vs. the run (193/630/4 – 3.3 yards per carry), but backs have 48 catches for 497 yards and five touchdowns on 61 targets.
Kamara holds his floor in most weeks due to his value in the passing game. His rising salary requires more than 32.00 fantasy points at DraftKings, but he can’t reach that level without at least one long play and a touchdown. New Orleans will get Jamaal Williams involved, and Hill has been stealing away his explosiveness. Playing well, and the Saints’ offense should score in this game.
Saquon Barkley, NYG (DK – $7,900/FD – $8,600)
The Giants’ offense has been dismal in seven of the eight games, leading them averaging only 11.9 points per game. Over the last three weeks, Barkley has been a big part of New York’s game plan (81/298 with 19 catches for 46 yards and one touchdown on 91 touches). Daniel Jones returns this week, along with LT Andrew Thomas, breathing life into all offensive players for the Giants. Barkley posted one playable game (27.20 fantasy points) in Week 2.
Las Vegas fell to 29th in running back defense (27.34 FPPG) after struggling over the past three weeks (31.80, 40.80, and 38.50 fantasy points). The Raiders allow 4.5 yards per rush, with backs scoring 11 touchdowns. Over the past two games, Chicago and Detroit rushed for 395 yards with three touchdowns. Running backs have 42 catches for 267 yards and one score on 56 targets.

Top-Tier Option
Mark Andrews, BAL (DK – $6,800/FD – $7,500)
With Travis Kelce off the main slate on Sunday, Andrews has the highest salary at tight end at DraftKings and FanDuel. His targets have been low in five (5, 5, 6, 6, and 5) of his six starts, leading to no game with impact catches (six in Week 5) or yards (high of 80 in Week 4). Andrews posted his best fantasy point games (25.00 and 22.30) when he scored twice in each matchup. In 2022, Baltimore gave him double-digit targets in five contests, leading to four winning days (9/104/1, 8/89/2, 8/89/1, and 7/106/1).
Seattle sits 12th in tight end defense (30/342/1), with the worst showing coming last week vs. the Browns (5/83/1). They played two teams with weakness at tight end (CAR – 3/34 and CIN – 2/9). The Seahawks’ defense struggled over their first three games (30, 31, and 27) in points allowed. Over the last four games, they allowed 50 combined points and only five touchdowns.
Andrews appears to be overpriced in the daily market in Week 9, suggesting he’s only in play if using him with Lamar Jackosn and hoping for a much higher-scoring game than expected. Ultimately, Seattle needs to jump out to a big lead to force the Ravens to attempt more passes.
Mid-Tier Options
Dallas Goedert, PHI (DK – $4,800/FD – $5,800)
Over the past month, Goedert has been an every-other-week player (8/117/1, 5/42, 5/77/1, and 4/36), with his best outcomes coming in odd weeks. The Eagles gave him seven targets or more in five of his last seven starts. Last year, he posted two dull games (2/22 and 3/67) vs. the Cowboys.

Zach Wilson OVER 214.5 Passing Yards (-115)
Wilson may not be a great quarterback but he’s got a very favorable matchup against a Los Angeles Chargers defense that is currently allowing the most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks and a whopping 311.4 passing yards per game. Even Division II QB Tyson Bagent accumulated 232 yards against the Chargers on Sunday Night Football last week. Let’s examine how the Chargers have fared against each quarterback they’ve faced to date this season:

As you can see, every single quarterback the Chargers have faced has surpassed Wilson’s prop line in Week 9. Although Wilson started the season slow after filling in for the injured Aaron Rodgers, he has surpassed this line in two of his previous four contests. And those were against much superior defenses.
Given that New York is expected to fall behind in this one against a very high-powered offense, the Jets likely won’t be able to lean on the ground-and-pound game. After last week, they may opt to look for Breece Hall on short passes as Hall was New York’s leading receiver in the Jets’ comeback victory over the New York Giants in Week 8.
Plus, Wilson has Garrett Wilson at his disposal, who despite the ebbs and flows of his season, has shown flashes of brilliance and could emerge as a top-five wideout with a better signal caller. If the Jets want to keep pace with the Chargers this week, Wilson is going to have to let it fly. Take the Over.

Fantasy Football Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em Week 9
Fantasy Football Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em Week 9 We are now more than halfway through the 2023 fantasy football season. The playoffs are rapidly approaching, which means we have entered ‘must-win’ territory for many fantasy managers. But, complicating matters in Week 9 is a brutal bye week. Our Fantasy Football Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em Week 9 will help you maximize your waiver wire adds and get the most out of your lineup. Week 9 Byes: Denver, Detroit, Jacksonville, San Francisco Quarterbacks Start ‘Em Jordan Love (Green Bay Packers) vs. Los Angeles Rams It’s desperation week at quarterback, with four teams on a bye and a multitude of injuries plaguing the position. Fantasy managers will have no choice but to deploy Love in their lineups. His recent performance has been lackluster, with three consecutive games yielding fewer than 16 points. However, the Rams’ defense has been porous against quarterbacks, with three of them exceeding 27 points since Week 4. Also, LA has given up a league-high four rushing touchdowns to the position. Meanwhile, Love has rushed for a score in two of his three games at Lambeau Field. It’s a gamble, but say a prayer and insert him into your starting lineup. Gardner Minshew (Indianapolis Colts) at Carolina Over the last three weeks, Minshew has maintained an average of 18.8 fantasy points per game. That ranks 10th among quarterbacks. He has thrown for at least 200 yards in each of these three games and has found the end zone seven times during that span. Also, Indianapolis has one of the most favorable matchups for quarterbacks this week, as Carolina’s defense has allowed touchdowns on 5.2% of pass attempts, the fifth-highest rate in the league. Additionally, the Colts tend to pass the ball 55.6% of the time when they have a lead, which is among the top 10 rates in the NFL. With several quarterbacks on a bye or unavailable due to injuries, Minshew is a viable option for fantasy managers facing tough decisions. Sit ‘Em Sam Howell (Washington Commanders) at New England Howell is coming off a remarkable game, throwing for 397 yards and four touchdowns in Philadelphia. However, his upcoming matchup against New England poses a greater challenge. The Patriots’ defense has been formidable against quarterbacks at home. Only one quarterback has thrown for more than 250 yards in New England. Also, the Patriots limited Jalen Hurts and Tua Tagovailoa to subpar fantasy outings at Gillette. Bill Belichick will be able to scheme up a way to limit the turnover-prone Howell. Running Backs Start ‘Em Darrell Henderson (Los Angeles Rams) at Green Bay Henderson took the field for 48% of the snaps in Week 8, accumulating 12 carries and two targets. Although he continued to share snaps with Royce Freeman, he led the team in carries and touches. Frustratingly, Freeman stole a goal-line touchdown from Henderson. Nonetheless, Henderson has demonstrated a consistent performance, surpassing 11 fantasy points in both of his 2023 appearances. This week, he could reach his fantasy ceiling against Green Bay. The Packers have allowed over 100 rushing yards per game and six rushing touchdowns to running backs in seven games. Also, they’ve given up a significant number of receptions to the position, making them the seventh-most generous defense to running backs in terms of fantasy points. Chuba Hubbard (Carolina Panthers) vs. Indianapolis Despite Miles Sanders’ return to full participation in practice, Hubbard retained his role as the primary early-down back in Week 8. He also took on the responsibility of third-down plays, while Sanders focused on running routes. Since taking over as the Panthers’ lead running back, Hubbard has averaged 11.7 fantasy points per game, ranking 26th among all running backs. The Colts provide an excellent matchup for running backs, as they’ve allowed the second-highest fantasy points per game to the position. Hubbard should be a consistent fantasy starter moving forward and is a must-start option in this game. Sit ‘Em Dameon Pierce (Houston Texans) vs. Tampa Bay Pierce had a lackluster outing with just 4.6 fantasy points against the Panthers. He shared snaps with Devin Singletary, and it was Singletary who handled passing-down duties. Additionally, Pierce struggled at the goal line and just popped up on Houston’s injury report. With his inconsistent performance and a matchup against the Bucs, who rank in the bottom 10 in rushing yards allowed to running backs, it’s advisable to avoid starting Pierce for the foreseeable future. Alexander Mattison (Minnesota Vikings) at Atlanta Mattison started the season well, finishing as a top-24 fantasy back in five of his first six games. However, he has fallen out of favor in recent weeks as Cam Akers has become more involved. The running back split between Mattison and Akers has been unpredictable, making it difficult to rely on either. Furthermore, the Falcons have one of the league’s stingiest defenses against running backs, allowing the second-fewest fantasy points per game. Given these factors, it’s best to consider alternatives to Mattison in this matchup. Wide Receivers Start ‘Em Nico Collins (Houston Texans) vs. Tampa Bay In Week 8, the entire Houston offense, led by C.J. Stroud, struggled against the Carolina Panthers. Stroud only managed 140 passing yards in what should have been a favorable matchup, resulting in a disappointing performance for all receivers. However, Stroud will bounce back. And Collins, as his favorite target, should benefit. Collins has received at least six targets in all but two games and, despite only having three touchdowns this season, he has a promising opportunity against the Buccaneers, who allow the ninth-most fantasy points to wide receivers. Expect the Texans to come out aggressively, with Stroud targeting Collins frequently. Collins is a solid WR2 option this week. Amari Cooper (Cleveland Browns) vs. Arizona Cardinals Cooper has consistently seen at least six targets per game this season, and his target volume has increased to at least eight when P.J. Walker is under center. Also, Cooper has recorded 85 or more receiving yards in two of his last three games. While his performance has

Over the last six games, Hurts averaged 331 combined yards with strength in his completion rate (67.7) and yards per pass attempt (7.9). His lacking area was passing touchdowns before gaining momentum in this area over his last two starts (2 and 4). He is on pace to gain 5,143 yards with 40 touchdowns. Last week’s game was better than advertised, as the Bucs hung with the Bills. However, the Thursday Night Football Preview: Week 9 offers up a pair of underperforming offenses that will be hard-pressed to be as entertaining.
Of course, that doesn’t mean this game has no headlines. Will Levis gets his first road start after an historic NFL debut. But, the Titans face a tough task traveling on short rest to take on the Steelers.
As for the Steelers, they face their own quarterback questions with Kenny Pickett’s health.
Both offenses have struggled in 2023, so we have an unusually low total of 36.5 points.
The Steelers are favored by just 2.5 points. That line tells us that Vegas thinks the Titans are the better team on a neutral field. But, are they?

It has been a struggle for the Titans and Steelers to score points all season. Pittsburgh enters Week 9 with the league’s worst offense. The Steelers also rank last in the league with a 26.3% first-down rate and enter this game with only six touchdown passes in eight games.
Meanwhile, the Titans have the fewest pass attempts in football. Only the Jets and Browns have fewer passing yards than Tennessee’s 1,442. Tennessee is an old-school offense that churns out rushing yards, controls the clock, and is a top-5 unit in converting fourth downs.
Also, Tennessee has the edge defensively. The Titans boast the NFL’s 13th-ranked stop unit. They rank 13th against the run and in points allowed. Plus, the Titans are top-10 in sack rate.
Pittsburgh’s defense had dropped off. The Steelers have the fifth-worst run defense through eight weeks. That’s a mismatch against a Titans offense that wants to run the ball 30-plus times.
This game opened with the Steelers favored by 3.5 and a total of 37.5. However, both of those numbers have dipped by one point.

Chuba Hubbard (RB) Carolina Panthers (15% FAAB) – If you weren’t proactive and added Hubbard last week while the Panthers were on a bye, the price has gone up. Hubbard dominated snaps on Sunday, playing 67% of the time and out-touching Miles Sanders 17-2.
Trey McBride (TE) Arizona Cardinals (13% FAAB) – The overall TE1 for Week 8, McBride racked up 10 grabs for 95 yards and a touchdown against Baltimore. McBride entered the game with just 15 receptions, so we definitely can’t rely on that kind of volume weekly. But, McBride has accumulated 25 targets over the last three weeks. As long as Zach Ertz remains sidelined, McBride should be viewed as a weekly fantasy TE1 and warranted a strong FAAB offer.
Sam Howell (QB) Washington Commanders (12% FAAB) – Howell has outscored Justin Herbert this season. Chances are he’s already rostered in your league. However, if people aren’t paying attention or are wary of Howell’s highs and lows, he should be the top QB priority.
