College Production
A highly-decorated star out of Lone Star High in Fresno, Texas, Marvin Mims was Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Mr. Texas Football (5A) recipient in 2019 and is the state’s all-time leader in career receiving yards in a career. Mims also set Texas records with his historic 117-2,629-32 showing as a senior. Mims has myriad Power 5 offers and committed initially to Stanford before finally staying closer to home with the Sooners. As a true freshman at OU, Mims immediately made an impact, leading the Sooners in grabs (37), yards (610), and scores (9) and earning freshman All-American honors. Mims averaged a career-best 22 yards per reception as a sophomore but his overall production dropped off due to the Caleb Williams/Spencer Rattler quarterback shenanigans. In 2022, Mims was named to the All-Big-12 First-Team after racking up 55 receptions for 1,083 yards and six touchdowns.

Strengths
• Outstanding measurables at the Combine, including a 40 (4.38), vert (39.5), and broad jump (129) that all tested in the 90th percentile or higher. Mims also posted an impressive 131.7 Burst Score (91st percentile).
• Versatile route runner with the ability to line up on the perimeter, in the slot (30.1% slot rate in 2022), or as a plus kick returner.
• Mims consistently was featured as OU’s No. 1 playmaker and excelled as a vertical threat who routinely came down with contested catches.
• Stood out with his ability to create yards after the catch with a knack for producing first towns. Mims has the kind of instincts and alpha mentality to develop into an NFL team’s WR1.
• Dangerous deep threat who tied for 16th in FBS in 2022 with 17.0 ADOT and was 28th with 2.75 yards per route run.
Concerns
• Mims is a bit undersized with his weight (11th percentile), hands (31st), and wingspan (29th) all falling well below norms that scouts like to see in NFL perimeter wideouts.
• While adept at making plays downfield, needs to develop a better feel for how to manipulate coverage and find weaknesses in zone coverage and on shorter routes.
• Unproven in many pro route concepts.
• Could struggle to fend off bigger, stronger press corners.
• Hands were mostly good but credited with four drops in 2022.
Fantasy Outlook
You don’t have to look long if you’re looking for Marvin Mims praise from the fantasy analytics community. Mims’ ability to generate big plays is expected to carry over into the pros and that has certainly not gone unnoticed.

The comparisons for Mims are also indicative of success, ranging from Darnell Mooney to Christian Kirk. I see a lot of similarities to TY Hilton, who was consistently able to make huge downfield plays and get open despite concerns about his frame.
Despite being a likely Day 2 pick, Mims’ ADP has crept up into the first round of rookie-only drafts. That puts him right up there as a top-5 wideout in this deep incoming group.
I feel like there is enough upside to warrant that kind of attention in drafts, particularly if Mims is drafted by a team that can scheme him into the proper role right away.
Mims is also in the conversation to be drafted as a WR4 in redraft leagues and has top-40 value in start-ups.
