College Production

The all-time receiving yards and touchdown receptions scorer at Dutch Fork (CA) High and four-time state champ, Hyatt spurned Virginia Tech and ultimately landed at Tennessee. After accumulating modest numbers in 17 games of action in 2020 and 2021, Hyatt broke out in his junior campaign.

Hyatt had a remarkable 2022 season despite being relatively unknown. As a unanimous All-American in 2022, he managed to accumulate 1,267 yards and score 15 touchdowns through only 67 receptions, which translates to an average of 18.9 yards per catch. His coming-out party was a 6-catch, 207-yard, 5-TD performance against Alabama.

Due to his outstanding season, he was honored with the Fred Biletnikoff Award, recognizing him as the top receiver in the nation.

Strengths

• Boasts elite speed, capable of quickly closing the gap on cornerbacks and outpacing even the fastest defensive backs.

• In 2022, Hyatt showcased his ability to dominate even the most talented secondaries in college football, making him nearly impossible to stop without double coverage.

• His long arms (32.5 inches) enable him to play bigger than his size, and his impressive catch radius allows him to make catches that might otherwise be out of reach.

• Hyatt excels at tracking the ball downfield and consistently makes receptions on long throws.

• He is an exceptional catch-and-run threat, running hard and gaining substantial yardage after the catch.

• Possesses elite quickness off the line of scrimmage and enough strength to escape the jam at the next level.

• A precise route runner, Hyatt can create separation when used on quick outs and stop patterns in college. He also exhibits good stop-start ability and lateral agility.

• Despite only being 176 lbs, he’s an excellent blocker.

• Additionally, he led the country in QB rating when targeted in 2022.

Concerns

• Limited tape and only one standout season (2022) where he achieved elite numbers.

• Has had a limited route tree and may require a significant amount of time to adapt to a professional offense.

• Has predominantly played in the slot and, as a result, has not frequently faced press coverage challenges.

• Needs to improve his ability to read and adjust to zone coverage.

• There may be some difficulty in translating his skillset to the professional level, where simply winning with speed on deep routes will not be enough.

• Simply unpolished.

Fantasy Outlook

I LOVE Jalin Hyatt! Hyatt is an exciting and raw young prospect for dynasty fantasy football leagues. He has incredible speed, demonstrated by his impressive college track records and on-field performances. He has also dominated the best teams in the SEC. However, his tape is limited, and he has only had one season where he achieved elite numbers.

Currently, Hyatt’s dynasty fantasy football ADP is low, making him an intriguing target for those looking to invest in a high-upside player. If he lands with a team that can properly utilize his speed and builds a scheme around him, his potential ceiling is sky-high. Hyatt’s landing spot will probably determine whether or not he becomes a great receiver.

As for possible NFL landing spots, the Buffalo Bills, Green Bay Packers, and Tennessee Titans could be excellent fits for his skillset. If he lands in Green Bay, he would have the opportunity to develop with Jordan Love and would make a crazy speed combo with WR Christian Watson. Meanwhile, the Bills could use him as a deep threat to stretch the field for their stud quarterback, Josh Allen. Hyatt could stay in the slot while Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis continue to work on the outside. Lastly, with the Titans, he could serve as an electrifying option opposite WR Treylon Burks, providing a dynamic vertical threat to the offense.

When it comes to player comparisons, Hyatt’s skillset is reminiscent of Will Fuller, a player who also made a name for himself with his speed and deep-threat abilities. If he can stay healthy and continue to develop his route tree, Hyatt has the potential to make a significant impact on the NFL and fantasy football alike. Landing in the right spot is crucial for Hyatt to succeed right away. In dynasty leagues, he’s definitely worth considering as a high-risk, high-reward pick.
