For the second straight year we are sending someone to the DraftKings Fantasy Hockey Word Championships. Subscriber MWise120 is headed to Washington, DC in March to compete as one of 40 entrants for a shot at the $100k first place prize in the $400k FHWC. Matt Wise achieved the seat last night by qualifying in one of the more difficult qualifiers with only three entries in the 39 entry max $15 qualifier. LINEUP BREAKDOWN So how did Wise come up with this lineup? Well, it really can be broken down into a simple 3 step process. Have a trusted process, trust your resources and trust your gut. 1. Trust the Process … Find two lines to correlate together for the GPP winning upside It starts with first following a concept that we have preached and is outlined in the NHL DFS 101 article as well. You want to correlate forwards skating on the same line as much as possible and it makes sense to do this with two teams in tournaments. It’s a common concept in NHL DFS and one that we encourage to do even in cash and single entry contests as over the long haul it will prove profitable. 2. Trust the resources at FullTime Fantasy Wise used the lineup construction process with two teams that were recommended as popular teams in good spots last night from experts Rob Geriak (The Point Shot) and Steve Renner (The Slap Shot) and correlated the New York Islanders top line of Brock Nelson, Jordan Eberle, Anders Lee and stacked them with the New York Rangers top line of Mika Zibanejad, Mats Zuccarello and Chris Kreider. Both the Rangers and Islanders were in highly recommended spots given their match-ups. In this case, given that it was a contest with over 1000 entries in it, Wise decided to go with the FULL line stack knowing he would need to get the full correlation of all 3 skaters for the most upside and he got it as those forwards helped to off-set lack of production from his defenseman. 3. Trust your Gut & Take some Risk Usually a winning lineup will be carried not just by production from the forward line stacks but with a goal or assist or two from the defenseman. But on this given night it turned out that there wasn’t a high priced must own defenseman and Wise was able to take some value at the defenseman spot and get away with little production there. However, the real gold, was Wise using his own theory when looking at the slate. “LOA … Law of Averages” as Wise put it. The LOA on this given night was that the Anaheim Ducks who had lost 12 in a row would finally end their bad luck losing streak on the road against the Wild. John Gibson has been someone that Rob Geriak has mentioned has carried the Ducks many times this year but has no help in front of him and he is not the man to blame for their long 12 game losing streak. Wise saw the Ducks sand said “LOA, Ducks win” and used John Gibson who delivered with a 37 save shutout victory.
