Kentucky Derby 150: Opening Odds

Contributing Author: Frank Taddeo @RespectedMoney on Twitter Kentucky Derby 150: Opening Odds The 150th Run For Roses Is A Wide-Open Race In 2024 The post-position draw for the “Fastest Two Minutes in Sports” was drawn a full week ahead of next Saturday’s 2024 installment of the prestigious race. The biggest takeaway from the draw is that it was not favorable for either of the two short morning-line favorites Fierceness (5/2) and Sierra Leone (3-1). The result of the less than ideal positions may result in a wide-open affair that could offer solid investment opportunities for bettors. 2024 NFL Draft Winners & Losers

2024 NFL Draft Winners & Losers The first round of Detroit’s first NFL Draft is in the books. And what a wild ride it was. With 32 picks in the books, it’s time to look back at the first-round 2024 NFL Draft Winners & Losers. Winners Caleb Williams (QB) Chicago Bears – There were no doubts that Williams was going No. 1. However, the Bears also added Washington WR Rome Odunze with the ninth pick. Williams will now open his pro career throwing to D.J. Moore, Keenan Allen, Oduzne, and TE Cole Kmet. Minnesota Vikings – The Vikings refused to trade up and stood pat. Their reward- still landing the quarterback they coveted and getting one of the top pass-rushers in this draft. J.J. McCarthy is pro-ready and lands in an offense that led the NFL in passing in 2023. A masterful job by Kwesi Adofo-Mensah. Xavier Worthy (WR) Kansas City Chiefs – I love the reinforcement the Chiefs added after a ‘down’ season still led to another Lombardi Trophy. They signed Hollywood Brown and were able to trade up with the Bills to nab the fastest player in the league. Worthy will step in right away and replace Mecole Hardman as the Cheifs’ main deep threat- a role that Tyreek Hill performed to much acclaim. Kyler Murray (QB) Arizona Cardinals – Murray landed a legit No. 1 wide receiver in Marvin Harrison Jr. After the pick, Murray was clearly excited. Fantasy managers should be as well. Harrison has WR1 upside in 2024 and could approach 150 targets. LET’S ROCK!🥋🏎️ @MarvHarrisonJr — Kyler Murray (@K1) April 26, 2024 Losers Atlanta Falcons – Wherever you come out on Michael Penix as a prospect, this was another head-scratcher from Terry Fontenot. Atlanta just went all in on Kirk Cousins to the tune of a $100 million deal with the first two years fully guaranteed. Then, out of nowhere, used the No. 8 pick on a 24-year-old rookie with a lengthy injury history who was widely considered a marginal first-round talent. Cousins was ‘stunned’. So were most football fans. Unless Cousins is behind on his injury rehab, Penix won’t play for a minimum of two years. Additionally, Fontenot may have alienated his prized offseason acquisition. Ricky Pearsall (WR) San Francisco 49ers– Although Pearsall’s dynasty value might actually be considered a winner, his 2024 redraft value took a hit. As long as Brandon Aiyuk remains in red and gold, Pearsall is, at best, fifth in line for targets in San Francisco. I love Ricky Pearsall as a prospect, so I’m not downgrading him too much. However, the No. 5 option in Kyle Shanahan’s offense is typically in the WR75 range due to lack of volume. Malik Nabers (WR) New York Giants – Nabers was my WR1 in the pre-draft process but landing with the Giants is a bit of a concern. I have no confidence in Daniel Jones’s ability to get an alpha wideout enough opportunities to pay off his ADP. I’m still a fan of Nabers in Dynasty, but his redraft value took a hit. Buffalo Bills – The Bills are up first in Round Two after trading out twice and accumulating more draft capital. However, the Bills are in ‘win now’ mode. And those late-round picks are unlikely to help this team win in 2024. Additionally, Buffalo can’t get by the Chiefs and just allowed their rivals to trade up with them and nab the fastest player in NFL Combine history. Michael Mayer (TE) Las Vegas Raiders – Quarterback is already an issue in Vegas. Now, the top tight end from last season just got usurped by one of the top tight end prospects of the last decade. It’s hard to see the Raiders having enough success to keep Mayer fantasy-relevant this season. Scott Atkins’ NFL Mock Draft FINAL

Scott Atkins’ NFL Mock Draft Final What a wild ride this NFL Mock Draft season was! The Commanders zeroed in on Jayden Daniels and the Patriots fell in love with JJ McCarthy. This sent the Vikings into a frenzy trying to move up to four to take their Quarterback. Even the Giants and Raiders hit the phones but the Cardinals with all that draft capital were locked in on MHJ. Now trades throw a huge wrinkle into any mock and sometimes it’s best to not try to predict any trades at all because if they don’t come in, your whole draft can be thrown off. So of course this year, I had to project a record FOUR trades! D The first with the Vikings. After unsuccessfully prying away the 4 pick from the Cardinals, Jim Harbaugh and the Chargers pick up the phone and say DEAL in order to plug their holes at OL and WR later in the round. I thought a lot about moving the Giants up one spot for the Chargers but in the end I chose the Vikings as the Chargers dance partner. Afterwards, the Giants surprise everyone with their selection of Rome Odunze (who we heard they had at the top of their WR board). The Jets then see an opportunity to lock in the last of the three stud WRs and trade up to 8 in a deal with the Falcons, who get the guy they would have taken at 8. That’s what they call a win-win for both teams. The Eagles move up from 22 to 12 with the Broncos to snag their top DB in the class while the Broncos trade down and select their QB Michael Penix not Bo Nix. The Steelers trade up with the Colts for an early draft day move, swapping picks to ensure they get their corner while the Colts had their eye on a certain WR from LSU to help pour some jet fuel on the Anthony Richardson led offense. Tuesday NFL Draft Vegas Markets on the Move

Every day we’re connecting you with the betting/wagering insights from Vegas, which directly means we’re sharing with you when a market makes a massive move based on big time betting money coming in and hammering a wager they think represents good value. This type of thing often happens when secrets are leaked from inside team war rooms. It’s also why the sportsbooks take most of their NFL Draft action off the board by sometime Tuesday night or early Wednesday. News starts to come out and the books find themselves on the wrong side of the action. It’s our job to help you get in front of it so you can be in the know about what’s to come. This info isn’t a prediction, it’s a spoiler. (Thank you Paul Heyman for that line.) MHJ to go No. 3 to NE was hit hard. (Can still be found at 33/1 at FD) Our Take: The Patriots must have only had QB Jayden Daniels on their board at 3 and with him projected to the Commanders, it looks like our recent mock which had the Patriots taking him with pick 3, may in fact come true. UNDER 4.5 QBs in 1st ROUND Our Take: Penix and Nix falling out of the 1st would be shocking but here we are. UNDER 6.5 Total Trades in RD 1 Our Take: Last year we saw 7 trades in the first round. Seems the bettors are thinking there will be slightly less action this year with teams but six would still make for a wild round one. OL Graham Barton UNDER 23.5 down to 20.5 Our Take: He’s gaining steam as I had him ranked 7th best OL behind Alt, Fuaga, Fautanu, Latham, Fashanu and Mims. EDGE Laiatu Latu Top 10 down to +175 Our Take: This is a HUGE move as he was recently 40 and 50-1 for the Top 10. —Both Latu & Byron Murphy to go in Top 10 has been hit hard. Both could be the target of ATL at No 8 OR both crack Top 10. It appears both have overtaken Dallas Turner. In order for both those guys to be taken, one possibility is that the Jets are trading up with Atlanta who has Latu top of their board (big change from Dallas Turner early reports) to lock in WR Rome Odunze at 8. CHI would then take Murphy, ATL then Latu. For Odunze to be there, 4 QBs (with Arizona trading down with someone), Alt and both MJH and Nabers selected. That leaves Odunze to the Jets at 8. They’d probably have to give up a 2nd next year to get it done. Doubt Atlanta gives them Odunze for less than that.
Rookie Scouting Profile: Michael Penix Jr.

FullTime Fantasy Rookie Scouting Profile: Michael Penix Jr. Michael Penix Jr. (QB) Washington Ht. Wt. 40-Time NFL Draft Dynasty ADP NFL Comp 6-2 216 4.57* Late 1st 3.10 Tua Tagovailoa * Pro Day College Production Penix was born in Cookeville, TN on May 8, 2000, but was mostly raised in Dade City, Florida. Attended Tampa Bay Technical High School where he compiled 4,243 passing yards and a 61-to-6 TD-to-INT ratio in two seasons as starter. Penix enrolled at Indiana on February 18, 2018 and completed 21-of-34 passes for 219 yards and a score in three games while redshirting. In 2019, Penix started six games and led the Hoosiers to a 5-1 record in those games before a shoulder injury ended his season. Named Indiana’s starter ahead of 2020, Penix again made six starts with a 5-1 record and earned Second-team All-Big-Ten honors before tearing his ACL in a 27-11 home victory against Maryland. 2021 campaign was derailed by a left shoulder injury after five starts. On December 14, 2021, Penix transferred to Washington. Ranked second in FBS with 4,641 passing yards and was named to the All-Pac-12 Second-team in 2022. Concluded college career winning the Maxwell Award, was named Second-team AP All-American, and was a Heisman Trophy finalist after leading the Huskies to the national championship game. Strengths • Strong throwing arm with outstanding accuracy and delivery on deep balls. • Impressive Pro Day measurables. Posted 97th percentile wingspan, 88th percentile hand size, 93rd percentile 40 time, and both his vert and broad jumps were in the top 5th percentile. • Good decision-maker who won’t waste a lot of throws or turn the ball over. Adept at reading through multiple progressions. • Has experience taking snaps under center and in a pro-style offense. • Good feel for pressure. Knows how to step up and get rid of the ball to avoid hits. Only 7.6% of his dropbacks in 2023 resulted in a sack. Concerns • Is already 24 years old with two right ACL tears and major injuries to both shoulders on his resume. • Accuracy drops off when forced outside of the pocket. • Throwing mechanics and release are inconsistent and need refinement. Issues could be further exasperated by the fact that Penix is a southpaw. • College playoffs are good indicators of the best (phenomenal vs. Texas) and worst (struggled vs. Michigan) that Penix brings to the table. • Production in 2023 was helped by an outstanding supporting cast. Fantasy Outlook The two most recent games that Michael Penix played are indicative of his full college resume. There are plenty of positives, like deep-ball accuracy, decision-making, and overall command. However, there are concerns exposed by Michigan that make Penix a polarizing prospect. His draft stock seems to be on the rise. Penix is mocked to the Raiders at 13, which would be good and bad for his 2024 fantasy value. Las Vegas signed Gardner Minshew which could lead to a developmental season for Penix. That’s troubling for a rookie who is already 24. Especially in dynasty formats. Then there are the two major knee and shoulder injuries to consider. That’s a lot of risk for dynasty managers to take into account. Unless Penix falls outside the top 20 in Superflex rookie drafts, I do not anticipate rostering him much. NFL DRAFT POSITION BOARD

Here’s how I rank each position so I call it a NFL Draft Position Board. While best player available tends to be the way to draft the first round, often times teams draft based on positional need. When that happens, this draft board will help you understand why the decision was made. NFL Mock Draft: By Betting Odds

Written By: Jaime Eisner, Frankie Taddeo, a collaboration presented by The Draft Network. Apr 22, 2024 • 1:01 am As the 2024 NFL Draft draws closer, the volume of mock draft posts increases exponentially. It’s a wonderful time of year, honestly, and we can see all sorts of creativity play out. There are predictive and “what I would do” mocks. There are mocks with trades, mocks without them, best player available mocks, and so much more. However, this mock will be a bit different than all of those. The players selected by each team are a reflection of available betting odds for teams, players, position groups, etc. That exercise is meant to illustrate what a chalk-like draft would look like. In addition to the selections, value plays are discussed to help give bettors a potential edge. So let’s take a look at what a first-round 2024 NFL mock draft looks like based only on betting odds with value and sharp money plays included. Reminder: Betting props often get taken down early—sometimes 48 hours in advance of Round 1. Be sure to get your wagers in well in advance. 2024 NFL Mock Draft 1. Chicago Bears (via CAR) Caleb Williams, QB, USC — Fantasy Profile – Superflex 1.01, Dynasty 1.07 There’s no suspense here. Caleb Williams is -20000 at DraftKings to be the No. 1 overall pick to the Bears. Don’t waste your time or money betting or fading this pick. 2. Washington Commanders Jayden Daniels, QB, LSU — Fantasy Profile – Superflex 1.03, Dynasty 1.12 Jayden Daniels is -130 at FanDuel to be the second quarterback taken and the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Daniels was heavily favored to be the second player off the board up until the middle of last week. Despite the massive odds swing, the dual-threat signal-caller is still favored to become the second QB off the board on Thursday night in MoTown. 3. New England Patriots Drake Maye, QB, North Carolina — Fantasy Profile – Superflex 1.05, Dynasty 2.08 The Patriots need to reset their quarterback clock by taking a rookie passer in the 2024 NFL Draft. The betting markets suggest Drake Maye is their answer. Maye is a -110 favorite at FanDuel to be the No. 3 overall pick in the draft. Value Play: J.J. McCarthy (+380; FanDuel) — With so little information available about who the No. 2 overall pick will be, there isn’t much value in betting on either Maye or Daniels. If you want to take a flier, it’s possible either the Patriots or a trade-up team like the Giants, Vikings, or Broncos like McCarthy as the overall QB3. 4. Arizona Cardinals Marvin Harrison Jr., WR, Ohio State — Fantasy Profile – Dynasty 1.01, Superflex 1.02 Marvin Harrison Jr. is -200 at DraftKings to be selected fourth overall. The most sought-after target in 2024 Fantasy Football Dynasty leagues is heavily favored (-500) to be the first non-QB off the board. Fantasy football managers meet the newest weapon for Arizona QB Kyler Murray IF the Cardinals do not trade back with a QB-needy team looking to move up. 5. Los Angeles Chargers Malik Nabers, WR, LSU — Fantasy Profile – Dynasty 1.02, Superflex 1.04 Like Arizona, this is a potential trade-up spot for a quarterback. However, if the Chargers stick and pick here, the only debate will be a wide receiver versus offensive tackle. Malik Nabers is the +200 favorite at MGM to be the Chargers’ selection. Los Angeles parted ways with both Keenan Allen and Mike Williams this offseason, leaving the roster in desperate need of a top wide receiver. Some in the NFL have Nabers as the WR1 in the class but he’s no lower than WR3. Value Play: J.J. McCarthy (+450; FanDuel) — If the Chargers want a new right tackle, I expect they’ll trade down to select one. A trade-up from any of several teams below them would almost certainly be for a quarterback. The Chargers can easily move back to pick 11, 12, or 13 and still get their guy and a bunch of draft capital. 6. New York Giants J.J. McCarthy, QB, Michigan — Fantasy Profile – Superflex 1.08, Dynasty 3.02 After seeing both Malik Nabers and Marvin Harrison Jr. come off the board just ahead of them in this scenario, the betting odds have the former Michigan standout favored to land with Big Blue. In fact, McCarthy is -900 at DraftKings to come off the board in the top 10, so we will stop his fall here. 7. Tennessee Titans Joe Alt, OT, Notre Dame It feels like the No. 7 pick has been earmarked for Joe Alt for quite some time. The Titans have obvious needs along their offensive line and many regard Alt as the top overall offensive lineman in the 2024 class. When a team need matches talent, a perfect fit is born. Alt is a -175 favorite to be the No. 7 pick at DraftKings. Outside of Caleb Williams to the Bears at No. 1, this has been the most mocked player-team fit. Value Play: Taliese Fuaga (+1000; Caesars) — Don’t expect anyone but Alt to be drafted in this spot if he’s still on the board, but what if Jim Harbaugh gets frisky at No. 5 and takes him? Sportsbooks appear to think the Titans will pivot to wide receiver, but I’m not so sure. The need on the offensive line is massive and Fuaga is a stud in his own right that could start for Tennessee right away. 8. Atlanta Falcons Dallas Turner, EDGE, Alabama The betting odds have former Crimson Tide standout Dallas Turner coming off the board to the Falcons at eighth overall. He’s the +150 favorite at Caesars to come off the board here. Value Play: Byron Murphy II (+1400, DraftKings) — Respected Money in Vegas says Atlanta is high on Texas DT Byron Murphy II. Don’t be shocked to see Terry Fontenot trade back a few spots and grab Murphy
