Week 6 Waiver Wire Wednesday
Quarterbacks
Jameis Winston — Winston will once again be the starter after the bye week for the Buccaneers. He has a fantastic matchup against the Falcons whose defense is completely depleted. I would start him in seasonal leagues and DFS alike.
C.J. Beathard — It shouldn’t be that surprising that Beathard has performed so well this season. Many people seem to forget that he was Kyle Shanahan’s chosen quarterback in last year’s draft. The only reason he wasn’t starting anymore was because of Jimmy G. Now that Jimmy G’s hurt it’s Beathard’s team once again. He’s got a very tough matchup against Green Bay on Monday night, but I still think he’s good for about 250 yards and two touchdowns.
Mitch Trubisky — It was just two weeks ago that Mitch had the game of his young career. Can he do it again against the Miami Dolphins this weekend? I tend to doubt it; however, he still is a very solid quarterback with a lot of upside. He’s got some tremendous skill players around him and he’s got an imaginative play calling head coach.
Running Backs
Wendell Smallwood — With Jay Ajayi out for the season there’s a good chance that Smallwood gets about 50% of the touches on Thursday night. Corey Clement is still not 100% healthy so Smallwood might even be the league ball carrier for the Eagles. That said, I wouldn’t go crazy on bidding on him on your waiver wire. The Eagles are thinking about making a trade for either Bell or McCoy so to invest heavily in Smallwood may come back to bite you later in the season.
Corey Clement — Clement is in a wonderful position to succeed now that Ajayi is out for the season. He’s going to have to share touches with Wendell Smallwood, but that’s OK because Clement is a very good receiver out of the backfield.
Ronald Jones — The Buccaneers are going to do whatever they can to give the ball to Ronald Jones and let him be their starting running back. Jones will have the opportunity however he is neither good at blocking nor receiving out of the backfield. So, with that in mind, know that Jones has some upside as a runner but not in PPR formats.
Alfred Morris — With Matt Breida out this week with a high ankle sprain expect Alfred Morris to get all the carries that he can handle against the Packers. Temper your expectations slightly as they may be playing from behind in this game, but he still should get about 10 to 15 touches this week which makes him worthy of being picked up off your waiver wire.
Mike Davis — I have so many good things to say about Mike Davis. He looks fantastic, and the team is committed to the running game. I know that Chris Carson is still the lead running back, but Davis got the short line the short yardage carries last week which was great to see. I think that he’ll be good for about 10 to 15 carries each week moving forward.
D’Onta Foreman — Alfred Blue had over 20 touches against the Cowboys last Sunday night which tells me that Bill O’Brien is dying to give the ball to a lead running back. Could that back be Foreman? I think so, and I think he will have every opportunity to win that job as soon as he returns from the injured list.
Wide Receivers
Robby Anderson — It was shocking to see Anderson catch two long touchdown passes last week but at the same time we know he’s always had that ability. Sam Darnold doesn’t like throwing the deep ball but if he’s willing to do so, Anderson can get open and can make a big play now and then. Don’t overpay for Anderson but he still is worth a few bucks this week especially with a good matchup against the Colts.
Taylor Gabriel — The wonder boy from two weeks ago, Gabriel should still be out there in most waiver wires. He plays in an imaginative offense with a really good head coach and a decent young quarterback.
D.J. Moore — I think Moore has only scratched the surface of his ability thus far. It’s possible in another few weeks, he will be the top receiver for the Panthers.
Courtland Sutton — The Broncos look to Sutton in the red zone which is good considering he’s got terrific size. Case Keenum has struggled with throwing the football, but that said, Sutton does get his opportunities, and I like him in a standard scoring format.
Marquez Valdes-Scantling — If Randall Cobb and Geronimo Allison are out once again then you must look at Valdes-Scantling. He played very well last week, and I think there’s a lot of upside there. Go get him on the cheap now.
Josh Reynolds — If Brandin Cooks and Cooper Kupp are out with concussions then there’s no doubt that Josh Reynolds will start in their place. He is an exciting young receiver who needs an opportunity to be productive. Will he get that opportunity this week? I’m not so sure, but I’m willing to stash him on my roster just in case.
Tre’Quan Smith — All the credit in the world to Adam Ronis who said that Smith would have a good year for the Saints. The Saints are on a bye week in Week 6, but that means you might be able to get him on the cheap. Pay what you can and reap the rewards later.
Cameron Meredith — If the Saints don’t use to go to Smith they certainly will use Meredith more. Meredith was out for most the preseason with an injury; however he seems to be playing much better now and is developing a good rapport with Drew Brees. I like his upside if he gets playing time.

Tight Ends
Greg Olsen — Olsen should be back this week for the Panthers, and you need to get him into your lineup. If there’s a chance that he may have been dropped in your league go pick him up right now and pay what you need to get him
Cameron Brate — Brate is an outstanding pick up this week especially with OJ Howard injured. The Buccaneers have an exciting matchup against the Falcons, so I would think that Jameis Winston will go to his favorite target in the red zone early and often.
C.J. Uzomah — Uzomah gets to play the Steelers this week who are the worst team in the NFL versus tight ends. He’s worth a sneaky pick up on the waivers.
Niles Paul — With ASJ out for the season, Paul should get a chance to be the lead tight end for the Jaguars. Paul is an outstanding blocker and is also underrated as a receiver. He could be a sneaky cheap play in DFS lineups as well.
