Mark Deming

SLEEPER

WR D.J. Moore, Carolina Panthers: Some rookies land in the right spot and Moore is the athletic receiver that Cam needs to push the rock downfield. New blood at offensive coordinator equals many potential targets for Moore. Size, speed and an aggressive attitude on the field are what Moore brings to the table.

BUST

WR Allen Robinson, Chicago Bears: Robinson was impressive in 2015 with 80/1400/14. Three years later the game has changed at the WR position. I prefer the cost of admission with Anthony Miller, Tarik Cohen, Trey Burton and Kevin White which all can be had in later rounds. Robinson feels like a has been to me, so I’m avoiding based on gut feel and his high ADP.

BREAKOUT

WR Jerick McKinnon, San Francisco 49ers: Before signing with San Francisco, I had McKinnon as the target FA to draft in Fantasy. Kyle Shanahan hand-picked McKinnon for his offense and let Carlos Hyde walk. Some say he can’t carry the load at RB and maybe they are correct but I disagree. McKinnon could catch 100-plus balls in the 49ers system paired with Jimmy Garoppolo’s skill set. McKinnon is also tougher than you think if you closely watched his games in 2017. Matt Breida is a cheap handcuff to hedge the bet in a favorable offensive system so draft both players.

COMEBACK

WR Jordy Nelson, Oakland Raiders: I believe Jordy has gas in the tank and Gruden’s system historically supports two WRs. Ignore the noise that Jordy has lost a step because even 90% Jordy can run by defenders. Look for Nelson to rule the slot position for the Raiders and serve as a security blanket for Carr. Jordy is a legend with production still to come in a Raiders offense that wants to run the ball but will end up having to throw lots.

STASH & CASH

WR Dante Pettis, San Francisco 49ers: I watched Pettis make crazy plays at the University of Washington. Pettis plays the WR position with an unorthodox style; he sometimes appears to play like a RB with his unique on-field speed and balance. Obviously, the 49ers felt the same way by snagging Pettis in the 2nd round/44th overall. Pettis is a great hedge bet for those taking Marquise Goodwin and Pierre Garçon.
