Monday, March 5th
This is a five game NHL slate today with nobody on a back to back. This is a great way to start the new week and it’s a pretty good slate for DFS with lots of good scoring matchups.
STACK OF THE NIGHT
I am going to continue to single out my top stack of each slate where there’s 5 or less games, this helps break it down into tier’s for me as I build my lineups when I examine my exposure and should help those of you building 1 or 2 lineups.
Toronto Maple Leafs … Kadri-Marner-Marleau
The Leafs looked bad against the Caps in the outdoor game on Saturday night and head coach Mike Babcock made them have a spirited practice on Sunday. I’d be stunned if they didn’t come out quick on the Buffalo Sabres tonight and ultimately it’s gonna come down to Marner or Nylander to carry them. I like Marner here as Nylander has been quiet without his dynamic duo partner Matthews in the lineup.
If you want to ride a full 4 skater stack then include Morgan Rielly or plug him in rather than Patrick Marleau. This is a good correlation stack tonight too with your goalie as Freddie Andersen is the top goalie on the slate.
MY TIER TWO STACKS
Vancouver Canucks … Bo Horvat, Brock Boesser, Alex Edler
This is the game that the sharp NHL DFS players will jump all over. Isles vs Canucks, two bad defenses and two eletric young players in Mathew Barzal and Brock Boeser going back and forth. John Tavares might just need to get away from the east coast to break out of his funk and he makes a nice GPP pivot tonight on a slate where there’s a ton of other center options, but my preference for a stack here is the Horvat-Boesser combination for Vancouver.
Calgary Flames … Sean Monahan, Johnny Gaudreau, Dougie Hamilton
If you pay up tonight, this is the stack I trust. For whatever reason the Flames are struggling at home but really a serious threat on the road. Pittsburgh’s defense has been shaky of late and I’ve been off on Gaudreau the last two times I was high on him, but expecting that trend to reverse tonight. This stack will cost a decent amount and will likely force you to choose a value defenseman to pair with Dougie Hamilton — look at Kris Russell from Edmonton to help open up salary in the rest of your lineup tonight if you ride this stack.
FORWARD RANKINGS
These are listed in order of combo plays, I always start lineups with a C&W Combination as much as possible, the guys in bold are the top one off’s to consider.
- Nazeem Kadri & Mitch Marner
- Connor McDavid & Leon Draisaitl… I don’t mind just rolling McDavid naked these days. He has goals in three straight and
- Tyler Seguin & Jamie Benn … Benn finally broke a slump over the weekend with an OT winning goal. I think having him back with Seguin full time is going to give him a boost.
- Bo Horvat & Brock Boesser
- Sean Monahan & Johnny Gaudreau … JG is a good one off play tonight
- Matthew Barzal & Jordan Eberle
- John Tavares & Anders Lee .. ah yes… The Law firm is in play again. Prefer Barzal tonight given how cold JT has been, but the breakout should come soon.
ONE OFF VALUE WINGERS
- Jordan Eberle – Make sure he is in the lineup
- Daniel Sedin
- Sam Reinhart
- Christian Fischer
TOP DEFENSEMAN
Defense is really deep today…. I would try to ensure you have one of the top 4 guys.
-
- John Klingberg
- Dougie Hamilton
- Erik Karlsson
- Kris Letang
- Morgan Reilly – Toronto stack & correlation with Marner/Kadri
- Alex Edler – Part of Vancouver Stack
- Oscar Klefbom
- Kris Russell (EDM) – Value Play
GOALIES
Frederick Andersen (Leafs) … Andersen and Bishop are nearly the same price on DK. Bishop being at home might feel like the safer play, but since I am leaning towards the Leafs skaters as a mid priced stack, I am leaning towards Andersen who always see’s a high shot volume and is the rock that the Leafs rely upon when they need a win.
Ben Bishop (Stars) … See above, I like him, just not as much as Freddie.
Cam Talbot (Oilers) … Faces a ton of shots and is cheap because his team is terrible, but tonight the Oilers should beat another bad team at home in the Coyotes.
LINE LOCK OF THE NIGHT: Nazeem Kadri – Mitch Marner – Patrick Marleau
ONE OFF STUD WINGER: Brock Boesser (Canucks) & Johnny Gaudreau (Flames)
ONE OFF VALUE WINGER: Daniel Sedin (Canucks)
TOP DEFENSEMAN: John Klingberg (Stars)
