These outlooks come jam-packed with Coaching Changes, NFL Draft, Free Agency, Offensive and Defensive updates, and player-by-player breakdowns at each position!
AFC East
- Buffalo Bills – Will free-agent acquisitions Curtis Samuel and Mack Hollins, along with second-round draft pick Keon Coleman be enough to give the Bills the same firepower in the passing game this year? Time will tell. Buffalo did hang on to Khalil Shakir and have spoke glowingly about his potential and new role.
- Miami Dolphins – Tua Tagovailoa had a strong campaign with Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle at his disposal, not to mention one of the best running games in the league with Raheem Mostert and Devon Achane.
- New England Patriots – The Pats realized that to compete, they needed to improve their skill position players. Enter second-round Washington WR Ja’Lynn Polk. Polk should be on the field in three-receiver sets next to Bourne and Douglas. Additionally, the Patriots also took a shot on Javon Baker out of UCF in the fourth round but he’ll be more of a project.
- New York Jets – “With Aaron Rodgers healthy and a rebuilt offensive line, the Jets should have a phenomenal passing offense. Wilson has had back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons despite playing with eight different quarterbacks so he should shine with Rodgers.” – Jake Asman, The Jake Asman Show
AFC North
- Baltimore Ravens – QB Lamar Jackson’s first season in Todd Monken’s offense was a success. Jackson completed a career-best 67.2% of his attempts and set a personal best with 3,678 passing yards. On a per-game basis, Jackson rushed less than he was accustomed to but still led the position with 821 yards on the ground.
- Cincinnati Bengals – With Joe Mixon traded to Houston, Zack Moss takes over as the team’s lead back. Moss filled in admirably for Jonathan Taylor last year, averaging a career-high 10.0 PPR points per game (23rd). Taylor likes to include his backs in the passing game, so Moss is a sneaky bet to be a solid RB3/flex option. Second-year rusher Chase Brown got a chance to contribute late last season and could play his way into the mix.
- Cleveland Browns – There is a lot of uncertainty in Cleveland and the Browns play a tough schedule. If Deshaun Watson can rekindle some of the magic he had in Houston, the Browns could boast impact fantasy options at each position. But fantasy football fans know to approach this roster with caution.
- Pittsburgh Steelers – Wilson will enter camp as the starter but Fields could easily usurp that job away. Although both options will be significant upgrades for Pittsburgh’s offense, it’s a tricky situation best avoided by fantasy drafters until there is clarity.
AFC South
- Houston Texans – By landing QB C.J. Stroud, the Texans now find themselves as serious contenders who can take a legitimate shot at building a championship-caliber roster while their young superstar quarterback is still in his rookie deal.
- Indianapolis Colts – With Anthony Richardson healthy and Michael Pittman re-signed to a new three-year deal, the Colts enter 2024 with momentum and some intriguing fantasy options.
- Jacksonville Jaguars – The 30th season in Jacksonville Jaguars history sees the club at a crossroads. After an 8-3 start, the team lost five of their final six to miss the playoffs. With the division-rival Texans surging and facing a tough schedule, Doug Pederson has his work cut out in 2024.
- Tennessee Titans – With Derrick Henry in Baltimore, the Titans signed Tony Pollard to take over. Pollard was a significant disappointment in 2023 and it is difficult to foresee him improving his fantasy output behind a transitioning offensive line. Additionally, Pollard will split touches with second-year runner Tyjae Spears, who ranked ninth at the position with 70 targets last season in a reserve role.
AFC West
- Denver Broncos – Don’t discount Estime’s chances of emerging with a significant role. He joins the Broncos after averaging 6.4 yards per carry last season at Notre Dame. If Williams can not return to form, adding Estime should help the Broncos reach the end zone on the ground, although his impact may be limited if Williams remains healthy.
- Kansas City Chiefs – When the Chiefs are at full strength, defensive coordinators will be the spokespeople for Tums. Kelce, Brown, Rice, and Worthy are dynamic playmakers, and we aren’t even talking about Patrick Mahomes. Even in a “down season”, Mahomes finished with the seventh-most fantasy points per game, averaging 18.4 per contest thanks to casually throwing for 4,183 yards and 27 touchdowns.
- Las Vegas Raiders – Regardless of whoever lines up under center, Adams is a wide receiver you can trust when selecting at the start of the second round of your fantasy drafts. While the 31-year-old receiver is entering his 11th season, he is still producing. Adams has posted five 1000-yard seasons over the last six years, including 1,144 yards on 103 receptions in 2023. All that production resulted in a fantasy WR11 fantasy finish a season ago.
- Los Angeles Chargers – Looking at the Chargers’ current depth chart, Justin Herbert’s top three options are Joshua Palmer, who had 38 receptions and 581 yards last season, second-year wideout Quentin Johnson, who had just 431 receiving yards and 38 receptions after being selected in the first round of the NFL draft last year, and Ladd McConkey. McConkey may overtake Palmer and Johnson as Herbert’s favorite target immediately.
NFC East
- Dallas Cowboys – Heading into the 2024 fantasy football season, Dallas presents a wealth of fantasy talent across multiple positions. Led by a high-powered offense and bolstered by a defense with playmaking potential, the Cowboys are poised to be a fantasy force again.
- New York Giants – In addition to drafting LSU WR Malik Nabers with the sixth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, The Giants found a replacement for Barkley in Devin Singletary who had a career year in 2023 with the Texans, finishing with over 1,000 all-purpose yards from scrimmage.
- Philadelphia Eagles – Although this looks like the ideal landing spot for Barkley, touchdowns are the one thing fantasy managers may be missing. We all know Philly’s propensity for the tush push, which may result in Hurts vulturing touchdown opportunities from Barkley. Still, this is the best offensive line Barkley has ever played behind and he’s poised to post elite fantasy production as a runner and receiver
- Washington Commanders – After acquiring RB Austin Ekeler in free agency and drafting LSU QB Jayden Daniels with the #2 pick in the NFL Draft, Washington will look quite different this upcoming season. Terry McLaurin and Jahan Dotson will remain a dynamic one-two punch in the wide receiver room. Third-round selection Luke McCaffrey out of Rice, will add some much-needed depth to the receiving corps.
NFC North
- Chicago Bears – After unloading Justin Fields to Pittsburgh, there was little doubt that the Chicago Bears’ long quest for a franchise signal-caller would look to USC’s Caleb Williams. The preeminent pick of the 2024 NFL Draft, Williams won the 2022 Heisman Trophy and gives the Bears a legitimate shot at an instant turnaround ala C.J. Stroud and Houston last season.
- Detroit Lions – In 2024, the Lions have a favorable strength of schedule and will once again trot out a very fantasy-friendly supporting cast. Goff is an excellent mid-round draft target for fantasy managers who bypass the elite signal-callers.
- Green Bay Packers – Jayden Reed is just as likely to be the club’s top dog. The second-rounder debuted with 64 grabs for 793 yards and 10 total touchdowns. Starting in Week 7, Reed posted overall WR7 fantasy numbers for the rest of the season. He’s a strong WR2 and can easily be paired with Love in drafts.
- Minnesota Vikings – The Vikings took a step back in Kevin O’Connell’s second season, dropping from 13-4 to 7-10. In his third season at the helm, OConnell must contend with breaking in a brand new franchise signal caller, running back, and quickly develop auxiliary weapons for Minnesota to return to the NFC playoff picture. If the 2024 NFL Draft is an indicator, the Vikes are in good shape.
NFC South
- Atlanta Falcons – Atlanta has top-10 talent at all three skill positions, giving them a lot of leverage and depth for a creative play-caller. This team should get involved in several “track meet” types of contests. Fantasy managers should not hesitate to target the new dirty birds.
- Carolina Panthers – Surrounding Young with better weapons was paramount for Canales. In March, the Panthers acquired disgruntled WR Diontae Johnson from the Steelers. Johnson was a target magnet in his first four seasons and enters 2024 motivated to ball out in a contract season.
- New Orleans Saints – Chris Olave ranked 12th in targets (138) and target share (25.6%). With the departure of Michael Thomas and his 12% target share, Olave is in prime position to enter the top 10 in his third season. 100 receptions and 1,300 yards are reasonable expectations for Olave in 2024.
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Todd Bowles coached the Buccaneers to their second-consecutive NFC South title and an upset win in the playoffs in Philadelphia. After re-signing Baker Mayfield and Mike Evans, the Bucs are running it back in 2024, which is great news for fantasy football fans.
NFC West
- Arizona Cardinals – Marvin Harrison Jr. is the top wide receiver in this year’s draft class and Murray’s newest WR1. Harrison Jr. gives Murray an elite option, something they haven’t had since De’Andre Hopkins’s departure. Many say the rookie reminds them of Cardinal legend Larry Fitzgerald.
- Los Angeles Rams – If Puka Nacua was the biggest surprise for fantasy managers, what do we call Kyren Williams? Williams (228/1,144/12) finished as the RB5 in PPR formats with 255 fantasy points despite missing four games. Only Christian McCaffery’s 24.5 fantasy points per contest were more than Williams’s 21.3.
- San Francisco 49ers – Brock Purdy (4,280/31/11) is banking on the availability of Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk, who played a pivotal role in his 2023 MVP contention as the QB6 in fantasy, with an impressive average of 19.6 fantasy points per game. His statistical prowess was evident as he outperformed NFL MVP Lamar Jackson in yards, touchdowns, passer rating (113), completion percentage (69.4), and yards per attempt (9.7).
- Seattle Seahawks – Expect Jaxon Smith-Njigba (63/628/4) to take a step forward this season after showing signs of a breakout in 2023. Between weeks 7 and 16, the rookie posted a top-40 scoring week in seven of those ten contests, giving him a lovely floor as a flex option. With a current ADP of 105 (WR43), Smith-Njigba is worth a roster spot and if Lockett or Metcalf were to miss time due to injury, then you could have a league-winner on your hands.
