College Production

Football runs in the family for Cedric Tillman, whose father caught 87 passes in a four-season NFL career from 1992-1995. The younger Tillman committed to Tennessee after starring for Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas. Tillman saw little action in his first three seasons with the Vols (including a red-shirt season in 2018) before finally moving into the starting lineup as a junior. It didn’t take long to make an impact. He led the Volunteers in receiving, compiling an impressive 64/1,081/12 line in a dozen starts. This included a Tennessee record seven straight games with a TD reception. A high-ankle sprain derailed Tillman’s senior campaign, limiting him to 37-of-58 targets for 417 yards and three scores.

Strengths

• Superb size with the skill set to be an imposing X receiver in the NFL. 88.6% of his routes in 2022 came from the outside.

• Speed and Burst Scores both were in the 79th percentile. Wing span (82nd) and broad jump (89th) also stood out in Indianapolis.

• Tracks ball downfield extremely well. Has the size, wing span, and ball skills to be a potent big-play threat and contested-catch winner.

• Tough competitor who never shies away from contact. Has plenty of dog in him.

• Plus blocker.

Concerns

• Lacks top-end speed.

• Ran an awful three-cone drill (7.32, 5th percentile) at Tennesse’s Pro Day.

• Predominately lined up on one side and had few reps from the slot.

• Doesn’t always get off the line quickly.

• Only had one dominant season at Tennessee.

Fantasy Outlook

Cedric Tillman has the prototype size to be a successful perimeter option in the NFL. Unfortunately, there is only one season where Tillman stood out in the role. Still, he checks enough boxes that it would not be a surprise at all to see him drafted in the second or third round. If that happens, Tillman will be a nice value at the 2/3 turn in rookie drafts.

Landing in Chicago, Atlanta, Green Bay, or any other team where he could start immediately would also be a boon for Tillman’s redraft and dynasty stock. I’m interested in targeting Tillman in the mid-to-late rounds and would be willing to take a shot a round or two earlier should the landing spot dictate an early starting opportunity.
