College Production

Luke Musgrave, a 3-star recruit according to ESPN and 247 Sports, chose to join Oregon State after excelling in multiple sports at Bend Senior High School.

As a freshman in 2019, Musgrave appeared in 8 games for the Beavers, making only 2 receptions for 18 yards while being on the field for just 59 snaps.

In the following year, as a sophomore in 2020 during a season abbreviated by the COVID-19 pandemic, Musgrave played in 7 games, amassing 12 catches for 142 yards, resulting in an average of 11.8 yards per catch, from a snap count of 312.

During his junior year of 2021, Musgrave played in all 13 games and made an impressive 22 catches for 304 yards, with one touchdown, and an average of 13.8 yards per catch. However, his QB rating when targeted was just 61.1, indicating an average performance.

Finally, in his senior year of 2022, Musgrave could only play 2 games due to injuries. Despite the limited playing time, he made 11 catches for 169 yards, averaging 15.4 yards per catch and securing one touchdown. He also had a notable QB rating of 132.4 when targeted. Additionally, he performed well in pass protection, conceding only one pressure.

Strengths

• Possesses prototypical size and athleticism for the tight end position at 6’6″ and 253lbs.

• Vertical jumped 36 1/2 inches, broad jumped 10-1 3/4, clocked a 4.51 40, and did 4.21 in the pro agility – outstanding numbers for a tight end his size.

• Has excellent short-area quickness and straight-line speed to threaten down the seam.

• Lack of college production due to injuries, not poor play – limited by COVID in 2020 and a knee injury in 2022, holding him to only two games.

• Played in a bad offense and was misused, resulting in a lack of production.

• Valuable as a catch-and-run threat, consistently picking up yards after the catch.

• Soft, reliable hands and a big target for quarterbacks, able to protect the ball when taking a big hit.

• Runs precise routes to get separation from defenders.

Concerns

• Footwork needs improvement to match his hand technique in the run game.

• Could benefit from more strength to better hold his ground at the point of attack.

• Average hand-fighting skills when making cuts inside.

• Tendency to drift during intermediate cuts from time to time.

• Modest catch radius on throws that are outside his frame.

Fantasy Outlook

Luke Musgrave is a great tight-end prospect in dynasty fantasy football leagues. While he didn’t produce eye-popping numbers in college due to various circumstances, his athletic profile and potential upside make him worth targeting in dynasty drafts.

Currently, Musgrave’s dynasty fantasy football ADP is outside the top 3 tight ends in rookie drafts, which presents an excellent value opportunity. Additionally, there are several potential NFL landing spots that could boost his fantasy stock, including teams like the Buffalo Bills, Houston Texans, or Cincinnati Bengals.

As a prospect, Musgrave draws player comparisons to Dallas Goedert and Mark Andrews due to his size, athleticism, and ability to win contested catches. He also has the potential to be a dynamic catch-and-run threat, showcasing his ability to pick up yards after the catch in college.

While he has areas for improvement, such as refining his footwork and hand fighting, Musgrave’s potential to pair his impressive physical traits with his solid technique could make him a valuable asset for dynasty managers in the future.

Overall, Musgrave is a high-upside prospect worth targeting in dynasty fantasy football leagues. His ADP and potential landing spots make him an attractive target, and his player comparisons highlight his potential to develop into a top-tier fantasy tight end in the future
