College Production
Luke Schoonmaker was a three-star recruit from Hamden Hall High School in Hamden Connecticut. Schoonmaker enrolled at Michigan in 2018 and played just one game in his red-shirt freshman season. In 2019, he played in just two games and caught a pair of passes for 54 yards and one touchdown. It wasn’t until his 2021 senior campaign that Schoonmaker began to make an impact, earning honorable-mention All-Big Ten honors and being named Most Improved Player on offense after accumulating 165 yards on 17 receptions with three scores. In 2022, Schoonmaker posted a 35/418/3 line and again was named honorable-mention All-Big Ten by the media.

Strengths
• Versatile athlete with experience as an in-line blocker and downfield receiver.
• Measurables pop, including a 97th percentile broad jump (127), 95th percentile three-cone drill (6.81), and 94th percentile Agility Score of 11.08.
• Ranked 10th in PFF’s receiving grades in 2022.
• Excellent combination of size and speed. Will be a problematic matchup for linebackers and smaller defensive backs.
• Blocking stood out, particularly in the run game.
• Even with limited reps, Schoonmaker looked like a good route runner with solid hands and a solid feel for how to leverage himself open in traffic.
Concerns
• Limited production at Michigan.
• Didn’t perform as well as expected in contested catch situations.
• Does not generate a lot of extra yards after contact. Only forced one missed tackle in the 2022 season.
• Could stand to add more bulk and strength to his frame.
Fantasy Outlook
The Dallas Cowboys were routinely linked to Michael Mayer in Round One of the 2022 NFL Draft. Instead, they waited a round and snagged Luke Schoonmaker with the 58th pick in Round Two.
After losing Dalton Schultz in free agency, there is certainly a path to immediate playing time for Schoonmaker. However, rookie tight ends often take time to succeed in the NFL and the Cowboys have not been shy to utilize multiple tight ends in their offense.
Looking at my updated rookie rankings, I have Schoonmaker as my TE6. He’s a player that I would target in the fourth round of rookie drafts. But, with the Cowboys’ knack for using multiple tight ends, Schoonmaker is well outside my top-25 tight ends in redraft leagues.
