Week 2 was filled with drama and several players did not emerge unscathed. Although it is too early to panic, the Fantasy Football Waiver Wire: Week 3 can help you fortify your roster to overcome the carnage of a wild week.
Here are some of the top fantasy-relevant free agents to target ahead of Week 3, with FAAB recommendations.
FAAB denotes Free Agent Acquisition Budget
Garrett Wilson (WR) New York Jets (12% FAAB) – Still available in about half of ESPN leagues, Wilson is a must-add in every format. With a whopping 14 targets, 8 receptions, 102 yards, and a pair of touchdowns, Wilson broke out in Week 2. Although he has played fewer snaps than Elijah Moore and Corey Davis, Wilson still has 22 targets in his first two NFL games. The rookie is a viable weekly WR3 with weekly WR2 upside. The only problem could be a potential decline when Zach Wilson returns. Still, Wilson should be rostered in all leagues and is worth a sizable FAAB bid.
Noah Brown (WR) Dallas Cowboys (5% FAAB) – Don’t look now, but Noah Brown enters Week 2 as a top-20 PPR receiver. And the loss of Dak Prescott didn’t seem to hurt his productivity. Brown has five receptions in each of the Cowboys’ first two contests. Last week, with Cooper Rush under center, Brown snagged all five of his targets for 91 yards and a score. The 6-foot-2 225-pound Ohio State product appears to be entrenched as Dallas’s No. 2 wideout. Even when Michael Gallup returns, Brown should remain a viable fantasy WR 3/4. Last season, the Cowboys ran ’11’ personnel on 67% of their snaps. Brown is barely rostered in fantasy leagues but that is about to change.
Jimmy Garoppolo (QB) San Francisco 49ers (5% FAAB) – How much you should bid on Jimmy G depends on your league settings. If he’s somehow on waivers in your Superflex league, Garoppolo could be worth the majority of your entire FAAB. In single QB redraft leagues, he’s merely worth a cautious investment as a weekly streamer. San Francisco’s offense might be better off under Garoppolo, but he’s not going to post QB1 numbers on a weekly basis.
Logan Thomas (TE) Washington Commanders (5% FAAB) – QB Carson Wentz has always thrown a ton of targets to his tight ends. That has continued into 2022 as Thomas has 11 looks through two games. Thomas is currently a fantasy TE1 and has looked completely healthy. He’s an excellent streamer with long-term starter potential.
Evan Engram (TE) Jacksonville Jaguars (5% FAAB) – Engram actually has one more target than Logan Thomas and ranks fourth with 11 receptions. Most of Engram’s grabs have been innocuous short passes but consistent volume is a plus. The Jaguars travel to LA this week to take on the Chargers in a game with potential fireworks.
Russel Gage (WR) Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4% FAAB) – The Bucs’ offense is sputtering and the looming 1-game suspension for Mike Evans certainly won’t help. However, that should lead to an expanded target share for Gage, who could be the only healthy regular starter in Week 3. Tampa hosts Green Bay on Sunday in what could be a high-scoring affair for a Bucs’ offense that needs to get right.
Raheem Mostert (RB) Miami Dolphins (4% FAAB) – In a game script that should have favored Chase Edmonds, Mostert somehow led the Dolphins backfield in snaps. He also out-carried Edmonds 11-5. Through Miami’s first two contests, Mostert boasts a higher yards per attempt average and may have played himself into a timeshare. While this is distressing for us Edmonds truthers, Mostert is starting to look quite fantasy-relevant.
Josh Palmer (WR) Los Angeles Chargers (4% FAAB) – Palmer is entrenched as the Chargers’ No. 3 wideout. He’s been limited to just 35 yards but does have a healthy 12 targets and seven grabs.
Sterling Shepard (WR) New York Giants (4% FAAB) – I don’t know what the Giants are doing at wideout but it seems to be working. The club is 2-0 in Brian Daboll’s first two games and has a winnable matchup with Dallas this week. Shepard drew 10 targets versus Carolina on a 90.4% snap rate. This is not a potent passing attack, by any means. But Shepard is leading the team with 14 targets.
Greg Dortch (WR) Arizona Cardinals (4% FAAB) – Through two games, Dortch has caught 11-of-13 targets for 118 yards and a touchdown. He was in on 62 of Arizona’s 87 snaps (71%) against Las Vegas. As long as Rondale Moore remains absent, Dortch is entrenched into a decent role. Plus, he’s only rostered in some 2% of fantasy leagues.
DeAndre Carter (WR) Los Angeles Chargers (3% FAAB) – Carter was a recommended claim last week and came through with a 3/55/1 line. He’s actually surpassed 50 yards in both Chargers’ games. If Keenan Allen is unable to suit up against the Jaguars, Carter is worth a solid 8-10% FAAB bid. If Allen returns, Carter is merely a decent bench stash. We’ll have an update on Allen tomorrow in our Injury Rundown.
Jerick McKinnon (RB) Kansas City Chiefs (3% FAAB) – McKinnon is a top-35 PPR back after two games despite only getting 13 touches. That production is unlikely to hold up all season. However, as long as he averaged three targets per game, McKinnon can be a decent bye-week option or injury relief.
Tyler Allgeier (RB) Atlanta Falcons (3% FAAB) – In his first NFL action, Allgeier got 10 carries on 19 snaps. He also ran five routes, so he was fairly involved in Atlanta’s offense. Cordarrelle Patterson remains the Falcons’ main back but Allgeier is worth a speculative add for fantasy managers with a free roster spot.
Cole Beasley (WR) Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3% FAAB) – Tampa is pummeled by injuries, which necessitated the signing of veteran slot man Beasley. Russell Gage is currently penciled in as the slot receiver but has been underwhelming. Gage can also play on the perimeter. Beasley was signed to Tampa’s practice squad but could be activated quickly.
Mark Ingram (RB) New Orleans Saints (2% FAAB) – Ingram was solid in relief of Alvin Kamara. Against Tampa, he rushed for 60 yards on 10 totes and caught both of his targets. However, Kamara (ribs) is tentatively expected to return in Week 3. If that happens, Ingram isn’t worth an add. If Kamara is ruled out, toss out a 5% bid on a temporary fill-in.
Eno Benjamin (RB) Arizona Cardinals (2% FAAB) – James Conner exited Week 2 with an ankle injury. With Conner sidelined, Benjamin and Darrel Williams (1% FAAB) split reps nearly 50/50. Conner’s injury isn’t expected to be serious at this time. We prefer targeting Benjamin due to his pass-catching role which was evident in Week 1 as well. If Conner is forced to miss Week 3, boost your bid up to 5-6%.
