College Production
M.V.P of the West Suburban Conference Silver Division after playing both ways for Glenbarb West, where he also played multiple sports and ran track. Committed to Cincinnati in 2018, playing special teams as a freshman. Snagged 37-of-64 targets for 652 yards in 2019. Moved into the starting lineup in 2020 but was limited by a shoulder injury and COVID-shortened season. Earned Second Team All-AAC honors in 2021 after posting a 58/884/8 line on 85 targets.
Strengths
• Outstanding size/speed profile.
• Metrics superstar with speed score (95th-percentile), 40-yard dash (90th), burst score (94th), and catch radius (98th) all registering as elite figures.
• Versatile inside/outside option who could line up at X, Y, or Z spot.
• Has the speed to run by opponents and the toughness to win over the middle.
• Profiles as a plus contested-catch and red-zone winner.
Weaknesses
• Below-average agility. Could struggle to consistently create enough separation.
• Not the most polished route-runner.
• May struggle to defeat press coverage against bigger and stronger NFL corners.
• Had a few concentration drops.
Fantasy Outlook
We’re projecting Pierce to be selected in the top-75 of the 2022 NFL Draft but his immediate fantasy value still has yet to be determined. He’s got the skillset to be an instant impact player but landing spot is critical. There are some concerns about Pierce’s ability to consistently create space and yards after catch but in the right offense, he can certainly be on the WR4/5 radar even in redraft leagues.
Post-Draft Recap
Pierce was selected with the 21st pick in Round Two by the Indianapolis Colts. This was quite a bit earlier than anticipated but nonetheless was a great landing spot for the first-year wideouts. With Matt Ryan looking like an upgrade over Carson Wentz, Pierce looks like an upgrade for a Colts’ receiving corps that was lacking in depth behind stellar starter Michael Pittman.
That makes Pierce one of the fastest dynasty risers after the draft, and a player we would love to target in the second round of dynasty rookie drafts.
