College Production
A four-star prospect and the top running back recruit in the state of Florida, White originally committed to Florida State and played both tailback and linebacker, recording 22 tackles in 2018. White spent 2019 at Iowa Western where he ran for 876 yards and 10 scores before enrolling at South Carolina in 2020. After playing sparingly as a junior, White eventually took over as the Gamecocks’ best back. In 2021, he rushed for 583 yards and 5 TDs while also catching 18 passes for 196 more yards.
Strengths
• Very good size profile for an NFL back.
• Underrated receiver. Hands catcher that ran surprisingly good routes for a bigger running back
• White displays solid vision and footwork and has plus power as a between-the-tackles grinder.
• Plus versatility. Played linebacker but also could be an effective short-yardage runner to go along with solid pass-catching skills.
• Solid ball security with limited usage.
Weaknesses
• Timed slower than film projected
• Will turn 24 during the 2022 NFL season
• Pass protection woes are a major detriment for playing time, especially for a player projected to potentially open his career in a part-time role on passing downs.
• Lack of ability to completely take over a backfield or produce elite numbers is a concern for a player that was so highly regarded out of high school.
Fantasy Outlook
White has been a favorite of the draftnik community for some time. When watching film from South Carolina, there is enough to warrant praise but there are also holes in his game and plenty of question marks. It’s hard to see White having much of an impact in Year One, which is also a concern for a player that is going to turn 24 in December. Feel free to take a shot on White with a fifth or sixth-round rookie pick but he can be safely ignored in all other formats.
On The Clock
There’s enough upside to warrant a speculative pick in the fourth or fifth round of rookie-only drafts, but White didn’t do himself any favors at South Carolina’s Pro Day. It wouldn’t be a shock at all for him to go undrafted and if that happens, it’s hard to justify spending a fantasy draft pick on him. For those that can, he’s a player to stash away who might develop into a decent committee player.
