This FFWC Online Championship was a slow draft that began on July 24th, 2020, prior to the Damien Williams opt-out. That’s worth noting since Clyde Edwards-Helaire was drafted in Round 3 and Williams was drafted in Round 7.

Team 1

Best Pick: QB Matthew Stafford DET 12.12

Stafford is my comeback player of the year, and I am a huge believer in waiting patiently for double-digit round value on quarterbacks. Not sure I would have gone Stafford with Aaron Rodgers still on the board, but I love the potential and value of a signal-caller in Round 12.

Worst Pick: WR Brandin Cooks HOU 12.12

My model has red flags galore for Cooks in 2020. I would have preferred Team 1 to grab Steelers WR Diontae Johnson, who went off the board several picks later.

Analysis: This roster is strong with RB Christian McCaffrey at the top, but I have strong concerns after him in overall depth at running back. Love the “connection” thought-process behind pairing Stafford with his number one target in Kenny Golladay in Round 2.

Team 2

Best Pick: QB Patrick Mahomes KC 3.2

Although I am a strong advocate for waiting on quarterbacks, when you’re getting the top-ranked option, it easily lands as the best pick of any roster. Mahomes is primed for another huge season.

Worst Pick: RB D’Andre Swift DET 5.2

I believe in Swift’s potential this season; however, with Kerryon Johnson sharing the load, I would have gone in another direction at this point in the draft. I would have grabbed either Mark Ingram or Devin Singletary, who went off the board several picks later.

Analysis: Team 2 is strong with RB Saquon Barkley, TE Travis Kelce, and Mahomes at the core of its roster construction. Love the selections of Mostert in Round 6 and Ruggs in Round 9. Due to COVID-19, I am concerned about only drafting one quarterback this year. I would like this owner to address this via waivers early in the season.

Team 3

Best Pick: WR Michael Thomas NO 1.3

I love the stones to grab Thomas off the board third overall. He is an absolute PPR beast and is easily worthy of top-5 consideration in every draft this summer.

Worst Pick: RB Damien Williams RB KC 7.3

As we know, Williams has decided to opt-out of the 2020 season due to concerns regarding COVID-19. Team 3 will easily be first to the waiver wire.

Analysis: I love the start of this team with Thomas, Lamar Jackson, and Jonathan Taylor. Hilton and Crowder are primed to be target hounds and lead their respective clubs in many receiving categories. Solid addition of Drew Brees to back up Jackson in Round 15.

Team 4

Best Pick: RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire KC 3.4

This is the easiest best pick of any team with the value of drafting CEH in the third round. With Damien Williams opting out, Team 4 inherits insane value with a player who is now a first-round pick in every draft.

Worst Pick: RB David Johnson RB HOU 4.9

Two reasons Johnson lands here. Firstly, I am concerned about what is left in the tank. Secondly, I would never suggest going four running backs in a row, which resulted in questionable wide receiver depth (really needs Deebo Samuel to return sooner than most are projecting).

Analysis: Easily the strongest running back depth of any team in Elliott, Jacobs, and CEH. Love the value of Hurst in Round 8 and Rodgers in Round 13. The biggest question mark is wide receiver depth but could have landed an absolute steal at that position in Allen Lazard in Round 12.

Team 5

Best Pick: WR Courtland Sutton DEN 5.5

I love the upside this season for Sutton in Mile High. The Broncos are in line for one of the most improved offenses with Lock under center and Gordon in the backfield. Sutton is going to explode in 2020.

Worst Pick: WR Sterling Shepard NYG 8.8

Several wide receivers went off the board a little later than I would have preferred here. Shepard, with all his injury concerns, is a boom or bust player. He will need to shed his concussion issues if he is to return any value in fantasy football this season, and that’s a big ‘if’ for me.

Analysis: Team 5 had a solid draft with depth at running back and wide receivers. This team needs to add depth at QB and TE due to pandemic concerns.

Team 6

Best Pick: RB James White NE 7.6

White has proven to be a solid addition to any PPR roster over the past few seasons, and with Cam Newton now up in Foxboro, we know he loves utilizing his running backs in the passing game (see McCaffrey). This is a solid value in Round 7 for a proven commodity expected to thrive in the short passing game post-Tom Brady era.

Worst Pick: RB Todd Gurley ATL 3.7

I could be wrong here, but Gurley is a complete pass for me in all fantasy leagues. I simply do not trust he is healthy enough ever to put up fantasy-relevant numbers again. I would have preferred one of the top wide receivers who immediately went off the board later in the round.

Analysis: Team 6 has some holes in his roster, but he will need Derrick Henry to show no signs of regression and have Tom Brady stay healthy all season in Tampa Bay to get the ball to Mike Evans for him to compete in this league. Prescott in Round 5 and Fitzgerald in Round 13 were solid value picks.

Team 7

Best Pick: WR Preston Williams MIA 10.6

An ACL injury derailed Williams’s season early, but if he is fully healed, he could be an absolute steal in Round 10. With Parker drawing the opposing team’s top corner every week, expect either Fitzpatrick or Tagovailoa to target the emerging talent often in 2020.

Worst Pick: WR Anthony Miller CHI 9.7

My biggest issue with this selection is I would have loved it if the drafter had plucked RB Matt Breida at this spot and solidified his running back corps.

Analysis: Team 7 had a solid start drafting one of the best running back tandems in  Cook and Jones and the 1A at tight end in George Kittle. Adding QB Kyler Murray in Round 7 could put this team over the top. I expect this squad to compete for the league title.

Team 8

Best Pick: WR Chris Godwin TB 2.5

This was a great move by Team 8 as he resisted the trend of falling for the trap of taking Mike Evans ahead of Godwin. As we know, Tom Brady has a strong propensity to target his slot receivers (see Julian Edelman), and my model has Godwin outperforming Evans in the Bucs offense this season.

Worst Pick: TE Evan Engram NYG 8.5

This pick was a bit of a head-scratcher. I am totally behind the selection of Ravens star TE Mark Andrews in Round 5, but using a valuable eighth-round pick on the oft-injured Giants tight end only three rounds later leaves much to be desired.

Analysis: I am a huge fan of this team’s upside, especially at the running back position if J.K. Dobbins and K’Shawn Vaughn can produce in their rookie seasons. Raiders WR Hunter Renfrow in Round 10 could turn out to be a steal.

Team 9

Best Pick: WR Diontae Johnson PIT 7.9

This was easily one of my favorite picks as my model is immensely bullish on Johnson with Ben Roethlisberger back under center in Pittsburgh.

Worst Pick: WR Terry McLaurin WSH 5.9

I like the player; I don’t like the value of the pick. Grabbing McLaurin while Tyler Boyd and Julian Edelman were still available is not something I can support.

Analysis: The first two rounds of Miles Sanders and Tyreek Hill are an awesome foundation of this team. Adding Tom Brady & Daniel Jones late in Rounds 12 & 13 was sneaky good.

Team 10

Best Pick: WR Amari Cooper DAL 4.3

Prescott and the ‘Boys will be explosive this season, and Cooper and Elliott will lead the way. I would have grabbed Cooper in the third round, but it worked out for Team 10 as the star wideout made it back around to him on the turn.

Worst Pick: RB Le’Veon Bell NYJ 3.10

Love the player, hate the head coach. Bell is one of the elite running back talents, but Jets head coach Adam Gase will use Frank Gore too much when it counts and frustrate fantasy owners. Gase has an issue with star players, as we saw with Jamal Adams. Bell will be the next star talent to leave Gotham.

Analysis: A case could be made that this squad may have assembled arguably the best core of starting wideouts in Davante Adams, Julio Jones, and Amari Cooper. Josh Allen was a solid pick in Round 12, but this team will need Derrius Guice and David Montgomery to have huge seasons.

Team 11

Best Pick: WR Calvin Ridley ATL 4.2

You heard it here first: Ridley will outperform Julio Jones in Atlanta in 2020.

Worst Pick: RB Cam Akers LAR 5.11

I like the player, but I hate the draft position and his offensive line. I would much rather have preferred Devin Singletary, Mark Ingram, or Raheem Mostert, who went off the board a few picks later.

Analysis: This is one of the strongest teams from top to bottom. Drake, D-Hop, AJ Brown, Ridley, and Watson form a solid nucleus. Hockenson in the 12th was a great pick. My model is high on him as a late tight end target.

Team 12

Best Pick: WR Tyler Boyd CIN 6.1

Boyd will put up monster numbers this season with AJ Green demanding attention combined with rookie Joe Burrow under center. The boys in Vegas are projecting the Bengals to struggle in 2020, which means a lot of second-half passing every week. Sign me up for as many shares of Boyd as I can get.

Worst Pick: RB Ronald Jones TB 8.1

I just don’t get the love for Jones. Tampa will throw the ball a ton with Brady, and the word around Tampa Bay circles is the back to own is Vaughn, who they just went out and drafted, not Jones.

Analysis: This team has solid potential to compete for the league crown, especially with the selection of QB Matt Ryan in the 12th round. The oddsmakers have Ryan currently listed as the co-favorite with Patrick Mahomes to lead the league in passing yards in 2020. Adding him late, with a core of Chubb, Ekeler, JuJu, Boyd, and Breida is impressive. Solid draft.
