The 13th quarterback drafted this year in the Fantasy Football World Championship (FFWC) has an ADP in the late 13th round. There are multiple quarterbacks drafted after the 14th round that I view having a chance to finish with starting value in the season-long fantasy games.

By cheating the quarterback position, a fantasy owner can gain added depth at running back, wide receiver, and tight end, especially if selecting a quarterback after the 12th round when the player pool at the skill positions start to dry out. It comes down to identifying the key player at all positions. If you see strength at RB or WR after round eight, it makes sense to wait on your first quarterback. The depth at quarterback in 2020 has multiple options capable of breaking through to the top 12.

Here’s a look at the ADPs from in the FFWC:

Drew Brees has the best wide receiver in the game with a top pass-catching running back and viable option at tight end. The Saints lost their way scoring rushing touchdowns last year, but they should have success in this area again in 2020. New Orleans has a top tier offensive line with a veteran wide receiver (Emanuel Sanders) added. Brees is always a great play at home, while his ceiling falls on the success of his secondary wide receivers.

The name value of Aaron Rodgers has faded thanks to the Packers’ unwillingness to invest in upgrades in his receiving core. Green Bay ran the ball at a high level in 2019 with improvement in touchdown production near the goal-line, which lowered the production of Rodgers in passing TDs.

The fact or fiction story of Baker Mayfield could be a re-run of 2019, leaving fantasy owners frustrated with his play-ability in the fantasy games. He has top excellent wide receivers if both players play up to their expected potential. The Browns have two elite running backs that bring explosiveness on the ground and in the passing game. Cleveland even has depth at tight end. Mayfield needs to find his accuracy this year, plus his offensive line has to show growth.

The luster of the Rams’ offense left the building in 2019 when LA failed to get Todd Gurley involved in the passing game. Jared Goff threw for plenty of yards (4,638), but he only delivered 22 passing touchdowns. Cooper Kupp and Robert Woods give the Rams plenty of production at wide receiver, and Goff showed a willingness to throw to his tight ends in 2020 at the expense of his running backs.

Cam Newton should win the starting job for New England. His ability to run helps his floor, but the Patriots’ receiving core behind James White and Julian Edelman has a lot to prove this year. I’d like to own Newton as a QB2 if he slides far enough in drafts.

Based on his career resume, Ben Roethlisberger should be a value in 2020. Fantasy owners seemed to shy away from JuJu Smith-Schuster this draft season after being considered a top-five option in 2019. The Steelers added Eric Ebron to improve their passing scoring ability in the red zone. The development of James Washington and Diontae Johnson is the key to Pittsburgh’s passing game’s success.

Drew Lock and Joe Burrow both have breakout value this year.

Burrow should draw more attention in drafts based on his excellent season in 2019 at LSU. The Bengals’ top three receivers could rank in the top-five in combined catches and receiving yards. Cinci also has an upside pass-catching running back. I have Burrow rated higher in my latest group of projections.

The gambler in me wants to gravitate to Lock as my breakout/starting quarterback. I love the upside of Noah Fant at tight end, and I expect Jerry Jeudy to hit the ground running. The big question comes from the Broncos’ game plan in 2020. Will they attack with the passing game or try to run a ball-control offense to keep game score in line? Lock has the five passing pieces I’m looking for at quarterback when adding in KJ Hamler and their pass-catching options at running back. I may be a year early on all the tools lining up in the Broncos’ passing game.

They say, “Cheater never win.” I guess they don’t play fantasy football as the best owners who cheat the quarterback position have an excellent feel for the drop-off at all positions while waiting to vulture a quarterback slips too far in drafts.

Last year Lamar Jackson had an ADP of 171 as the 14th quarterback draft. Dak Prescott and Josh Allen also emerged as winning picks at quarterback with ADPs after round 15 in this format.

When making your decisions on your starting fantasy quarterback this season, review the receiving options on each NFL roster while also taking in each quarterback career resume. These two data points should point you in the right direction at quarterback in 2020.
