SLATE BREAKDOWN

Sunday Baseball!!!!!!!!!!

For my money there is nothing better than when we had the all day Sunday MLB slates that included the 4:00 PM games.  But we have had to settle for the early games only over the past couple of years and life has adjusted just okay!  Sunday MLB DFS has to be my favorite thing in the world, but among the least favorite Sunday MLB DFS slates is without a doubt the first one of the year.  Weather usually doesnt cooperate this early in the year, but one thing we do have going for us is that both sites have the same 9 games on them.

Last night was fantastic.  It was great to wake up to all the screenshots from everyone winning.  Lets keep rollin!

A couple things here early in the season that just stick out to me like a sore thumb.  As much as I like the Mets this year, they aren’t sweeping the Nationals in DC.  And as much as I love my Royals start, they shouldn’t be sweeping the White Sox (but they will)….  Those two things are sticking in the back of my mind as we head into this slate.

WEATHER

I took an L yesterday going on the risky side and saying Cincy might play.  Taking the L there.

I hate this Sunday pitching slate.  Where are the aces for everyone to use as bad chalk????   Oh wait, people might play Carlos Carrasco in Minnesota?  Hah….

Patrick Corbin (DK: $10,000, FD: $9,800) … Corbin is someone I am cautiously optimistic on for the Nationals this year.  One thing we have immediate returns on (small sample size, I know) is the catcher situation in DC.  Suzuki is terrible and should only play when Anibal is pitching.  I bring this up because he played yesterday and thus we’ll definitely see Yan Gomes behind the dish today for the Nats which gives me enough confidence along with the strong winds cutting across the stadium to trust Corbin.  As I mentioned above, I don’t see the Mets sweeping the Nats.  Corbin beats Wheeler today in what should be a pitchers duel.

Sonny Gray (DK: $7,600, FD: $6,800) … I like Corbin about 4x as much as Gray today, but he would be the second arm to consider for me if you want to do multiple lineups.

FADE

J.A. Happ (DK: $10,100, FD: $9,300) … I’m not paying 10.1k (DK) for Happ in a bad weather game.  No thanks.  The Yanks have no desire to let pitchers go more than 6 innings.  Unless they’re under 10k, I wont be touching them.

SNEAKY ARMS

Sandy Alcantara (DK: $5,000) … I do not see the need to use Sandy on FanDuel, so that is why (s)he is only listed with a DK price tag as an SP2 to pair with Corbin today.  You’re telling me I get one of the Marlins young arms for just 5k on SouthBeach day against a team who fits the SouthBeach profile (Nolan, Story and Desi definitely took the young kids out last night).  The jury is still out on Alcantara long term but his strikeout upside with an electric fastball is worth the 5k price today.

Corbin Burnes (FD: $6,400) … In case you haven’t noticed I jumped off the Carpenter in Miller Park bandwagon on Friday.  Why?  He will have his annual huge series in Milwaukee next time.  That and I have historically done well fading against the Cardinals on Sunday afternoons.  It’s a crazy theory, but with Goldy also not typically being a Sunday guy I find this as an optimal spot to pick on them.  Lets take it a bit further here, Corbin Burnes is the Brewers best SP.  He’s probably going to be on a relatively short leash though which is why we cannot consider him at 8.5k on DraftKings.  His $6,400 FanDuel price on the other hand is too cheap and is your sneaky longshot arm on FD today.

I’d rather have Burnes at 6.4k than Alcantara on FD and on the flip side I’d rather have Alcantara at 5k than Burnes at 8.5k on DK.  Huge differences.

There isn’t one team that honestly leaps off the page at me today.  The Yankees assuming the game plays will be popular against HR target Dylan Bundy with the wind blowing out to right.  But the Yanks are kinda like the Penguins in hockey for me, they get production all over and for their prices we don’t have to have them most slates.   If you are in a large tournament today and want to throw caution to the wind then go heavy on one team today, but I don’t see someone putting up double digits like the Dodgers have the past few days.  Lots of bad hitting environments on this slate.

Update … I want to clarify that I like all three of these teams below the same today, so don’t read much into the order of them.

RAYS … I don’t love picking on Houston, but Wade Miley is an easy target to attack on this slate for me.  Dare I say that I love Mike Zunino hitting 6th?  Inside information says that he is a new dad (boy) and he also just had a birthday this past week.  Now he gets to face someone he caught while in Seattle?  Z-Pack homer in the oven.   Nobody will have Tampa today and I really like some of the righties at the top of the lineup ahead of Zunino

ROYALS …  The Royals sweeping the White Sox to start the season 3-0 and in first place?  Look, I don’t wanna be taking victory laps or anything this early in the season but they’re the only AL team without a loss!  Anyways, Giolito is the AL version of Thor, he can be run on constantly as he gives up a TON of steals and that is the ONLY thing the Royals can do.  Whit & Mondesi getting on base is just about an automatic Hit+SB+R scored.  Welcome to the first of about 26 Sunday’s where I shed a tear that Salvy is out for the year.  I also cannot endorse Lucas Duda being in the lineup but here we are.

TIGERS … This is a full 50k type MME stack play of the day.  The Tigers lineup is one that I have more faith in than most and 1-5 today looks very tempting.  Miggy took one on the wrist yesterday but is back in the lineup today and I think he and Castellanos can carry this team today.  Tigers win.

Favorite one off players per position in BOLD

CATCHERS:   I wrote up Mike Zunino above.  I am listing him here and down below…  Just take it and move on.

FIRST BASE:   There is no must own play here today so you can really go off the wall as much as you want.

SECOND BASE:   All the Whit for me today

THIRD BASE:  Unlike first base, you can pretty much lock in Brandon Drury chalk day again today here at third.

SHORTSTOP:   Really good position.  pay up.

OUTFIELD:

OUTFIELD VALUE:

What is the Dongers Club exactly???  These are the ‘special’ calls for the slate, or more specifically they originated as players who are being picked to homer from their respective positions on the slate.  No more than one player per position and you can generally use these as my favorite play at the position on the day when trying to decide on a tie-breaker.  The Chairman is the top overall HR pick of the slate and it will not always be guys who are gonna wind up with 30+ homers — that’s what makes this unique and bold.
